Security officer who killed White Settlement church shooter won’t face charges

A Tarrant County grand jury Monday declined to indict a volunteer security officer for a White Settlement church who fatally shot a man who killed two parishioners during a Sunday service. Jack Wilson fired one shot at Keith Thomas Kinnunen, stopping the 43-year-old gunman seconds after he pulled out a shotgun and shot Anton “Tony” Wallace, 64, and Richard White, 67, the morning of Dec. 29 at West Freeway Church of Christ.

There were more than 250 people in the church at the time, officials said. Tim Rodgers, a prosecutor in the Tarrant County district attorney’s office, said in a written statement that the office believes the grand jury made the right decision, noting that Texas law allows people to use deadly force to protect others from being killed or seriously injured.

“ They went to a grand jury with this? WTF is the matter with these people.”
*************

Virtually every shooting will go to a grand jury. Being no-billed provides protection against a civil lawsuit as well.

How does that work? Does a Grand Jury No Bill mean a DA cannot bring to Grand Jury again and again until they get an indictment?

TBH I would rather see a court verdict of not guilty than get a no bill. At least double jeopardy is honored.

Dragging one out for 10 months before going to a grand jury is not normal.

That is actually what caused my comment.

It’s unreasonably long except to a lawyer.

“In Texas ALL homicides go before a grand jury every single one. It’s part of our Texas Penal code. The grand jury’s job is to determine if the homicide was justifiable or not and to issue an indictment or if justifiable homicide a no bill is issued. Only a grand jury can issue the no bill that’s just how it works here.”

My understanding too, it goes back a long way. I’m not sure, but it might be as much to protect people against runaway prosecutors as to make life difficult for innocent people.

The only question that I would ask is why did it take 22 months? How about 22 days, or something reasonable? I wouldn’t want a grand jury hanging over me for that amount of time.

I can accept that. Let me write something I want you and everyone else to read very carefully. The BLM/Anti-fa and these criminal types do NOT accept law. If you, if you're part of the system of law here, and the others who are do not get these folks stopped, they may very well get a civil war going. When, they lose, you may have folks like me in charge once we defeat them.

I will probably be dead and gone before that happens, but I'll tell you like I told students in school. It will happen (and the things I told them HAVE happened) and we WILL get a despotic form of government for failure to execute justice swiftly. I'm going to be gentle...you can NOT imagine what will happen after that. That is not an idle comment.

“All of the people responsible for even bringing that case before a grand jury for consideration must face prison some day.”

This No Bill from the Grand Jury protects this hero from ever being charged on the State level. Had a GJ not been convened some future DA could have filed charges. If I’m ever in a similar situation I’d do everything I could to have a GJ look into things.

Did not know that. Should give them a third option. Bill, no bill or medal. Guy deserves a medal.

I was curious about your no-bill question as I did not know the answer. So, did some googling. Read the article inbelow link. I think it may answer most of your questions about True-Bill, No-Bill, Grand Jury in general. It did for me.

I agree with every bit of that. The blm/antifa slugs had no respect for laws to begin with, now democrat mayors & da’s are letting them walk with no bail, no charges, they will get bolder and if we are not very careful, they will get the war they want.

Like you, I will probably not survive it, but when we put them down, the future will belong to leaders with our beliefs and values. I really don’t feel sorry for them when that comes to pass...and I’m pretty sure it will not be yhe blm/antifa thugs who win, that’s no more than 10% of the population...If they have a whole lot of the blacks behind them and I don’t think they do.

Not at all there’s a huge back log to call grand jury’s in most counties. While people incorrectly assume that having a pending GJ appearance is some putative action it most certainly is not. The whole reason for GJs is to have a group of citizens not a rouge DA be the ones to determine if a person is to be indicted which is the formal issuance of charges against them. Before an indictment someone is just a person of interest , no is set they are innocent and uncharged with a crime until a true bill is issued followed by an indictment. People who live in free states value our grand jury’s they are a much respected and needed firewall against rouge DAs. People can at their digression wave the right to a grand jury and let a DA or prosecutor review their case which is much more expedient but who in their right mind would do so. I personally have stood before two God never once was I worried regardless of the time it took it’s just the process here. First one tool 8 months for a justifiable homicide right off 6th st they took 45 minutes to review the 911 call and crime scene photos before returning my no bill. My prepaid legal covered the appearance with my lawyer it was simple formality so I could give a statement to my fellow citizens as to why I shot that man twice. If you shoot someone in Texas for ANY reason you WILL have to speak to a grand jury that’s our law.

I agree single shot with a 357 Sig over friendlies heads from 15 meters under stress fire. He domed the cretin too. I was a LEO for 11 years and have unfortunately a few stress fire situations that shot was ice cold brass ones. I’d like to shake his hand and buy him a 21yo scotch.
