A tsunami of Democrats seeking ballots through the mail in this pandemic-plagued presidential election year is upending the very dynamics of voting in Ohio.
The impact of this ground-shaking change shows up in two major ways:
The outcome of the presidential race in the bellwether Buckeye State appears even more unpredictable than usual.
Ohio could be among the states where election fraud is alleged simply because the leader in the presidential vote could shift dramatically on election night and possibly shift back a week-and-a-half later.
Before COVID-19 hit, more Ohio Republicans than Democrats voted by mail, generally speaking. Democrats favored voting early in person at their county elections board, or going to the polls Election Day.
But in 2020, Democrats are far outdistancing GOP voters in requesting absentee ballots.
For example, at this point in the 2016 election, Stark County Democrats had asked for 6,000 mail ballots, compared with nearly 10,000 for Republicans.
This year, the Canton-area Democrats have sought more than 19,000, the Republicans fewer than 12,000.
Democratic ballot requests have more than tripled in Hamilton County as well, leaping from fewer than 17,000 four years ago to about 51,000 in 2020. Republicans have gone from about 16,000 to nearly 23,000.

This is why I plan to early vote in person.

OH does track party registration. The kicker is that if you do not vote in the last election (inc. a primary) you are thrown into the “U” bin (unaffiliated). Well, in 2012 these threw me and some other OH observers because we thought they were independents. They aren’t. They are lazy R or D voters who don’t vote in the primary.
So after 2018 we ran a simulation assigning all U voters to either R or D based on last 20 years’ of that address’s voting history. The result was an R +300,000 net lead.
Trump will win OH by 8-9 points. DemoKKKrats are cannibalizing their ED voting and STILL falling short in both NC and FL, so no reason to think OH will be different.

OH is a +300,000 R NET state after you assign all Us to D or R based on 20 year voting history. Trump will win the state by 8-9, again.
Then every republican and indie should request an absentee ballot, fill it out and have it ready to deliver to the polling place or clerks office by election day.
I really trust Trump but it appears that our side is not doing enough. Unless of course, much is being done behind the scenes????
If PA is a must win then I don’t see Trump winning. The rats there have it rigged but good there.

And I’ll still show up at the polls to cast a provisional ballot on Election Day, just in case a representative of the Democrat Postal Workers Union decides to dump my completed mail-in ballot down a sewer.
In Ohio we declare our party affiliation when we vote in person in the primary. I do not remember declaring my party when I registered.
When requesting an absentee ballot for a primary, we must request a specific ballot; Republican, Democrat or Independent (issues only).
I’m not sure Ohio tracks voters by party registration.

I'm a Board Member of an Ohio county Board of Elections.
The authors of the piece are the most Lefty of the Leftists writing for the Dispatch. The're trying to keep hope alive for the Biden campaign here, which is dormant.
It may backfire, as it will make Trump voters even more determined to get out and vote. Every vote counts, winning the popular vote is important so that Trump has more of a mandate.
Speaking of Ohio, my son is in a swing county - Lake County- and there are nothing but Trump signs.
He drives all day due to being a courier.
Some will be. PA, WI, won’t be. But expect plenty for Biden to be called.
