Report: Republicans Plan to Appoint Electors if Vote Results Delayed
Breitbart ^ | 23 September 2020 | JOEL B. POLLAK

Posted on 09/23/2020 11:17:48 AM PDT by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

The Atlantic reported Wednesday that Republicans are investigating contingency plans in which Republican-held legislatures would appoint members of the Electoral College if their states’ voting results were still in doubt weeks after Election Day.

Barton Gellman wrote: “According to sources in the Republican Party at the state and national levels, the Trump campaign is discussing contingency plans to bypass election results and appoint loyal electors in battleground states where Republicans hold the legislative majority.”

Gellman provided a sinister spin: “With a justification based on claims of rampant fraud, Trump would ask state legislators to set aside the popular vote and exercise their power to choose a slate of electors directly.”

Hollywood celebrities expressed their alarm, warning that the Atlantic article proves Trump plans to become a “dictator”:

But in every case, it is the Trump campaign that is pushing for votes to be counted as soon as possible, and Democrats who are pushing for longer deadlines for the submission and counting of mail-in ballots, as well as relaxed standards for ballots.

Moreover, Gellman acknowledged that the alleged Republican effort is entirely constitutional. Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution says: “Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress.”

Therefore, if Democrats try to use an uncertain popular vote to throw the election in doubt — and with Joe Biden’s campaign openly boasting that it has recruited at least 600 lawyers to fight over the count — Republicans can short-circuit that effort.

It would be extremely unlikely for Republican-held legislatures to appoint electors in states where Democrats had won the popular vote in a legitimate manner. However...

Maybe we should gather around our State capitals on Nov 4th or 5th and have our own little protest.

Dems: He CAN’T do that! We just found 10,000,000 more uncounted, unsigned, ballots with no postmark and our pet judge said they HAD to count them as if they were real!

Trump would ask state legislators to set aside the popular vote

That PRESUMES Trump loses the popular vote. He may not. But if there is even one uncounted ballot, no matter how insurmountable Trump’s lead might be, dublecrats will fight to delay the inevitable. Dumblecratss gotta dumble.

Trump campaign that is pushing for votes to be counted as soon as possible, and Democrats who are pushing for longer deadlines for the submission and counting of mail-in ballots, as well as relaxed standards for ballots.

And the dumblecrats are winning. Just yesterday they won in NC, demanding that mail-ins be accepted NINE DAYS after election day. Judges are agreeing with their ridiculous arguments. It is not disenfranchising to expect people who want to vote do so and assure their ballots are delivered in a timely manner and to fill them out correctly.

All 29 states with GOP legislatures total 295 electoral votes. Makes you wonder why things always seem so tight...

Yep, it’s okay for the legislature to ignore the vote tally if it gives the race to a Commie Rat.

While this is true, it's likely that each state also has a law which determines how those electors are chosen, and it's almost certainly based on the popular vote.

Still, I think it's a good strategy to keep the pressure on the Democrats, and let them know that any vote counting irregularities are going to be closely scrutinized.

Each of those Republican legislatures can vote to change the law and direct their Electors to vote for Trump.

Clearly your dad was a white supremacist.
/Sarc

I remember following him around as he worked the voting precincts. He and a 2nd person there would unlock and open the back of the huge voting machines, and transfer the results to his briefcase. Always two people to crosscheck and verify the numbers. Then the briefcase was locked, and it got driven to City Hall. My Dad was a Democrat, and was an honest man. He would cringe at what the Democrats are doing today. When I became a voter, I switched parties a few years later to be Republican, because I could see that other Democrats were not playing by the rules. This was just after my Dad passed away in 1971.
