A few weeks ago, the Democratic National Committee formally acknowledged what has been evident for quite some time: Nonreligious voters are a critical part of the party’s base. In a one-page resolution passed at its annual summer meeting, the DNC called on Democratic politicians to recognize and celebrate the contributions of nonreligious Americans, who make up one-third of Democrats.
In response, Robert Jeffress, a Dallas pastor with close ties to Trump, appeared on Fox News, saying the Democrats were finally admitting they are a “godless party.”This was hardly a new argument. Conservative Christian leaders have been repeating some version of this claim for years, and have often called on religious conservatives and Republican politicians to defend the country against a growing wave of liberal secularism.
And it’s true that liberals have been leaving organized religion in high numbers over the past few decades. But blaming the Democrats, as Jeffress and others are wont to do, doesn’t capture the profound role that conservative Christian activists have played in transforming the country’s religious landscape, and the role they appear to have played in liberals’ rejection of organized religion.
Liberal Americans are less religious than they used to be
Over the course of a single generation, the country has gotten a lot less religious. As recently as the early 1990s, less than 10 percent of Americans lacked a formal religious affiliation, and liberals weren’t all that much likelier to be nonreligious than the public overall.
Today, however, nearly one in four Americans are religiously unaffiliated. That includes almost 40 percent of liberals — up from 12 percent in 1990, according to the 2018 General Social Survey.1 The share of conservatives and moderates who have no religion, meanwhile, has risen less dramatically.

Since religion is not by default Christianity, being a follower of Christ, it’s really irrelevant if they are being driven away from *religion*.
If by that they imply that they are being driven away from God, they’ve been outright rejecting Him as a whole for decades now. So it’s not like any one has *driven* them from anything.
The left thinks they ARE God. They don’t need or want the real One. He is antithetical to their sick, totalitarian Stalinazi agenda.
Liberals are not just less religious. . .becoming “less religious” is not a journey into a vacuum. . .It means Liberals are more embracing of perverse behaviors that are an abomination to God and destructive to civil society.
Interesting to note its never a problem that they feel deserves an article, that secular society does its very best to isolte and kick out the religious from all areas of society.
The open hostility to all things christian doesnt seem to merit objective discussion, much less concern, in secular media, aparently...
Atheists don’t believe in nothing, they believe in anything.
With no God, no Hell, and no morals, a person can do anything without fear or concern.

Liberals destroyed the United Methodist Church, the Lutheran Church, the Presbytarian Church USA, the Northern Baptists, and a lot of other denominations beginning about 100 yrs ago. So to claim the “ Christian Right” made them irreligious is ludicrous in the extreme. Liberals drove what they called derisively “the Bible thumpers” from mainline denominations from the early 1930s on. What a pail of horse twaddle.
Liberals sometimes play at a game they call Religion or Christianity but that is all it is, a game. When the government shuts down the churches they don’t miss them.

How many churches will see this and think that the answer is to water down their theology even more to appear non threatening to liberals?

I can not follow the logic.
Liberals have always accused social conservatives of bringing religion into politics, but liberals have done something far worse, and far more radical: They have made politics their religion...What they really want is liberal Sharia law, a secular theocracy.
The minimum wage, gender equality, nationalized health care, and global warming—whatever their practical virtues—are not just expedient policy prescriptions. They are essential aspects of the liberal fatwa... Question them and you are not just wrong—you are a heretic.
You wonder why the left is having a nervous breakdown in the wake of Trump's election? It is because, for them, politics is the means to secular salvation. This means that, to them, political failure is not just a setback on the road to a more stable society—it is a blow to their very worldview. Opposition to their program is not just wrong-headed, but evil.
The so-called liberals are not liberal at all. Most of them are communist/Nazi/hard leftists who quit church ( in any real sense) years ago. If they attend it’s only for appearances or to nene business contacts.
Even the Bible said thousands of years ago that men loves Darkness rather than come into the Light!

During the 2016 Democrat Convention in Charlotte, NC, they BOOED God!
They said the Pledge of Allegiance, but omitted “one nation under God” this year.
They are supporting mass murder of the most innocent people.
They are exposing kindergarten and grade school children to immoral and perverted sex. And confusing them about what sex they are, forcing some to be mutilated for life.
If Christians don’t speak out against such, we have lost our saltiness and will be tossed beside the road.
It is a core part of the doctrine of the Left, that they are never responsible for anything.
The Left decided, that if you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em and that’s why they’ve infiltrated all of the churches, even the Southern Baptists.
I told her flatly to her face that God dont make robots and that her friend is free to make up their own minds.
But somehow in the end, I feel that she was really trying to guilt trip and bully them into attending church.
