Sen. Gary Peters holds slight lead over John James
Democratic Michigan U.S. Senator Gary Peters is in a tight race with Republican challenger John James, according to a new WDIV/Detroit News poll.
Sen. Peters is running for his second term in the U.S. Senate, while John James is making his second attempt at being an incumbent for the seat. James lost to Sen. Debbie Stabenow in 2018.
Heading into the final stretch of the 2020 election, Peters holds a 3-point lead over James, which is in the margin of error for the WDIV/Detroit News poll.
Sen. Peters has a 30.8 percent favorable ratings, and a 31.5 percent unfavorable rating. James has a 31.3 percent favorable rating, and a 33.7 percent unfavorable.
Both candidates have a name identification over 80 percent, with Peters carrying a slight edge. About 14 percent of voters are undecided in the race, 40 percent of which are Biden voters.

I think Trump’s coattails will put James over the top.
Plus Peters vote against Trumps SC nominee should help too
if the vote is held before the election.
The promise to support Trump’s USSC choice will be important here.
Thanks to the efforts of the Michigan Supreme Court who rewrote the election law, the Democrats now have two weeks after Election Day to manufacture the required Democrat votes and they now also have ballot harvesting in their bag of tricks, again thanks to the Court.
Election laws are meaningless now, the judges can change them at will to ensure that Democrats prevail in every election going forward. Michigan will go for Biden and James will be defeated. It is not longer a fair election.
voting against making infanticide illegal shouldn’t help him either.
He is a very impressive person - his favorability should not be underwater. Negative ads are effective against an opponent, but especially when a challenger it is good to have some positive biographical ads for people to like the challenger as an alternative. Otherwise, the motivation in the voting booth can be "I guess I'll stick with the devil I know rather than the devil I don't know."
The Michigan legislature which writes the laws and which is controlled by Republicans, will overturn that ruling.
Or the other way around. Biden is 5 points ahead of Trump in this poll and Peters is 3 points ahead of James in this poll. But, the trend is positive for both candidates.
You think Gretchen Whitmer will sign any such legislation?

Wasn’t that a lower court? I don’t think it was the MI SC.
GOP could have taken some senate seats in the rust belt had they actually taken the field...but they didnt... focused on holding rather than being agressive. Put up crap candidates (largely) and didnt bother takin the field.
I fully expect some pick ups, provided the National organization actually shows up and helps them fight for them up here.
prolly some Silent Trump’s in the sample. Not many ticket-splitters nowadays.
Peters has been running a lot of negative ada against James.
Well without marijuana on the ballot, the Democrats needed a trick up their sleeves to get voters interested.
She already said she would veto a bill that supported the life of a human being in the womb. It was sometime before in the beginning of the year. I forget what was being proposed. It would be something if James got in. Could not do anything against Stabenow.
Looks like it is is time for us Freepers to send some money to James.
Every election I look at the races where the contributions DW and I can make will provide a difference. This looks like one of those races.
Both re-electing DJT and holding the Senate are important this year.
Both AG and SOS are Dems and have declined to appeal the decision by Judge Stephens. Michigan SC declined to hear an appeal by League of Women Voters which sent it back to Claims court Judge, Stephens, which ruled in favor or League of Women voters.
Only one litigant is appealing, a civilian that feels it opens up voter fraud with the extension.
Not good for Michigan.
You are correct and I was wrong. Judge Cynthia Stephens, a Court of Claims judge issued the injunction, good only for the Nov. 3d Election. Apparently anyone can rewrite election laws. Was the Night Traffic Court judge not available?
