Thor is a surgical strike approach—the initial transfer of energy forms a narrow conic shockwave, which broadens in a similar fashion as an anti-armor explosive-shaped projectile. The kinetic impact device energy is transformed at the nose from energy of motion into a high temperature and high density plasma, much like found with a nuclear explosive, but confined within the small initial breech introduced into a hardened bunker. For a 9 metric ton device, the energy at Mach10 would be equivalent to a bit less than 12 tons TNT, but focused in the direction of travel, rather than omnidirectional.
Energy deposited into the materials surrounding the initial impact point will serve to broaden the entry point into a crater. There will be a localized heat flash effect. Super-heated metal vapor will support further combustIon once expelled into the immediate surroundings. These secondary effects are less widespread than other conventional military ordnance already available.
