Amy Barrett — Immediately, If Not Sooner

President Trump has the right nominee at the right moment in American history.

When Ruth Bader Ginsburg died Friday evening, she did so with a message for posterity which, for all the history that Ginsburg might have made as a woman on the Supreme Court, was pristine in its self-description of her time on the Court.

“My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed,” she said.

The arrogance of that was par for Ginsburg’s course.

The fact that Republican women haven’t been represented on the Supreme Court since Sandra Day O’Connor rankles a bit; you’ve got to offer big parts of your base role models when you can.

Yes, yes, Ruth Bader Ginsburg lived an interesting life, and yes, yes, she was an accomplished woman. Those things are beside the point. It is neither ghoulish nor inappropriate to look to the future of the United States Supreme Court upon her death rather than pay tribute to the life she lived. After all, that life was for all practical purposes long since over months ago, when Ginsburg chose to spend her time on death’s door occupying space on the Supreme Court in an effort to outlast President Trump. And Ginsburg practically begged us to engage in nominatorial exegesis upon her death with the unfortunate quote referenced above.

That her gambit failed, despite practically every responsible pundit and political voice in the country either whispering or shouting the lack of wisdom involved in Ginsburg persisting on the court long after she should have recognized her failing health and retired, is not the fault or responsibility of President Trump.

She was 87 years old, for crying out loud. Were Trump to be re-elected, did she honestly expect to linger on the Supreme Court until

“My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed,” she said.

This comment was reported by her granddaughter... it seems odd RBG would play the 'elite' card. It tarnishes her memory.

I REALLY want Amy on the SC, but I think the Left will not let it happen this year, they will drag the hearings out.

That would actually play to our advantage. All those suburban women sitting on the fence...once they see how Amy is treated by the Left simply because she is a woman that is a conservative, then the Biden/Kamala ticket won't be so appealing after all.

Exactly. Trump is playing with house money here, if he gets her on the Court before the election, great. If not, it will help his re-election chances, so he’ll have the opportunity to make even more picks down the road.

Excellent comments, especially the one about “Ruth, it is not your seat on the SCOTUS, it is our seat”.

These DC denizens all think the positions they occupy are exclusively theirs in perpetuity.

That’s what worries me about Lee. However, I can see the advantage of appointing him. I doubt Romney would not vote for Lee. Same for Grassley. That would put us at 51 votes for and he could be sworn in by Mid-October. Do we risk it and put him on now, and hope that in Trump’s next term we have a GOP Senate to add Barrett when there is another retirement. Or, do we go for it with a supposedly staunch conservative in Barrett and finally see a solid conservative block on the court? Glad I ain’t the guy making that call.

I’d be interested in reading some of Barrett’s opinions if there are any available online. Dissents are actually more useful when judging these folks than majority opinions. IMO.

RBG was not an “Oath Keeper.” She did not support and defend the Constitution of the United States. It amazes me that a judge that does not support thew Constitution is on any court. God bless and protect America.

Her boss was Anthony Scalia, Catholic, 7 children - 2 adopted from Haiti, another child with special needs, Constitutionalist. Oh yeah I’m liking her better and better.

agreed.
given her work with the ACLU, she should have been very carefully vetted to assure she’s uphold the constitution. Unfortunately, she was was not. And we cannot blame only the Democratic Senators, either. Her confirmation vote was 93 to 3! The GOP is equally at fault for this terrible, horrible, rancid confirmation!

No. Not Barrett. She stated that she would recuse herself from any case that contradicted Papal opinion. She’s not a Constitutionalist, she’s a Papist in the worst sense.

She’d be an excellent choice. Let the Democrats condemn her for being a devout Catholic right before an election.

Hispanics will just love that.

Also isn’t Lee a little squishy when it comes to illegal immigration and H1 and H2 visas?

Not really he is all for them, nothing squishy about his opinion. Tried to introduce legislation that would bypass the President on the issue.

Catholics were actually banned in NYS at about the same time.

JFK being Catholic was a big issue as I recall.
