NEWS ‘YMCA’ writer OK with Trump using song — but he wants to see him dance
NY Post ^ | September 11, 2020 | Steven Nelson

President Trump has drawn heat form stars such as Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones and John Fogerty for using their songs before his rallies, but one composer has no problem with it.

Victor Willis of the Village People says Trump is welcome to continue using “YMCA” at his re-election rallies — he just wants to see the commander in chief do the iconic dance.

“’YMCA’ is everybody’s anthem and go-to song for fun. As for the president’s use, I have not granted permission for use at his rallies because permission is not required,” Willis told Bloomberg News through a spokesman.

“If I were a Trump hater maybe I’d sue him simply out of spite,” Willis said. “I am not, and I’m not going to have my lawyers sue the president. But he should at least do the ‘YMCA’ dance while he’s at it.”

Okay, I’m lost here....

I was referring to Megadeth, founded by Dave Mustaine in 1983 after he was fired from Metallica.

He dances, sorta. But he does look like he's having a great time!

WATCH: Trump shows off his Dance Moves to “YMCA” at Michigan Rally

Still would love to see him bust a move, though...

YMCA & YWCA one were hostelries for indigent men and women, respectively. They morphed into unisex low-cost gyms.

Perhaps someone can explain to me “stay at the YMCA”? I’ve been in a number of YMCAs over the decades, but I’ve never been to one that allowed people to stay there. Perhaps someone could educate me.

The Young Men's Christian Association used to operate hotels--and it may still do so. In 1978, I stayed at the YMCA Hotel in San Francisco. The accommodations were spartan--a bed and a small room, with a communal bathroom that served the whole floor--but they were inexpensive. The facility, built in 1928, allowed free parking and was conveniently located in the Tenderloin District, near Union Square. This was back when San Francisco was still an exciting and fun place to visit.

The building is still there, but it seems to have been converted to an apartment house.

Grenell could get out on the stage with him and help him out. That dude is sharp and entertaining. I posted this once before but here is a great interview he did. Oops, no, here it isn’t. I listened to it on Ricochet.com, but it seems to have rolled off the episodes available to me....

I tried to google for information regarding the gay subculture at the Y but could not find anything . Perhaps you could offer some firsthand accounts?

“Indigent men and Women?”
Come on man, you are so off base with that statement, “I should take you behind the gym and whoop your sorry butt!”
But I ain’t Joe Biden....

Both “Ys” were decent places to spend a night or two, a week at most, for traveling men and women who might prefer staying in a YMCA to a posh hotel at a greater cost.

Yup, I am aware of that. IIRC, David Ellefson (who was out of the band for a few years, but has since rejoined) is also a Christian.
