Its a true talent to unite a team within the lines of a football field, but its something else altogether to bring a group of young men together outside the game.
Thats what Alabama head coach Nick Saban helped do on Monday when his players organized a march to protest racial injustice within the country. Although Saban was at the front of the line and the first to speak outside Foster Auditorium at the conclusion of the march, he wanted to ensure the people that the reason this was happening is from listening to his athletes.
This is what helped me grow in my role as a leader, to listen to the players, to learn from the players and give them opportunities to do things that could impact social change today, said Saban. Today Im like a proud parent. Im proud of our messengers over here and Im very proud of the message.
Im very proud of the All lives cant matter until Black Lives Matter video that we did early on that I think had a very positive impact. That was something we did together as a team. This is something that the team decided to do together as a team, so Im very proud and supportive of what they are trying to say, and in a peaceful and intelligent way. Im very pleased to be here.
Senior running back Najee Harris was one of the players right up in front with Saban and one of the big orchestrators in putting the march together and also one of the biggest advocates of Saban as a players coach.
Back in August Harris raved about Sabans willingness to listen to the team when it comes to issues of race...

I think we should take a flamethrower to Sabans ass.
Will I see a day in my life when they aren’t crying about being black?
So far, I have never had a single day in my life without their whining!!!
Saban knows who writes his checks.
He kissed that ring.
All lives matter no matter what the dude says. If he wants BL2M then perhaps they need to learn what the word ‘respect’ means.
Respect for self
Respect for others
Respect for laws
Respect for society
Respect for rules
IMHO, the BLM is an anarchist movement that is married to the devil and hell.
Since he’s signed up for it, I know where he stands too.
Cuck coward.
The ones who do those wise principles are called “Toms”.
Ending ‘racism’ will never solve the problems that you addressed in your 1-12.
Going through life on a crutch is so much easier.
He should get a room with that a-hole who coaches Seattle
I hope Alabama fans have the character to walk away from this mindless mentality.
Alabama football, supporting the Soros funded BLM and Antifa.
Unbelievable !
Ok have your feel good, social justice symbolism without substance marches.
When in uniform no kneeling for the anthem.
Ok coach Saban now hand out copies of the US Constitution with the football playbook.
Caveat - Huge Alabama and Nick Saban fan.
1. Saban actually does care about the players.
2. Saban is a pretty big liberal, politically. And that is really odd because his philosophy on being successful is VERY conservative. Do yourself a favor and google up a Saban video on team success addressing companies. From a leadership point of view, Saban would make a great CEO in any industry. Work hard, own what YOU are responsible for, constant improvement in your personal and athletic endeavors. Saban RARELY comments on politics or gets involved in political issues. This one is different.
3. If you step back and look at it, Saban was/is in a very difficult position. If he did not support the player march in some way, it would have created a huge rift between him and the players. By leading it, he could give as positive a message and direction as possible. His participation also had the effect of discouraging unruly behavior. I am definitely a believer that BLM is a Marxist organization sowing racial discord. I am HOPING that Saban did what he did to try and turn the tide (pun there) away from violence and more toward dialogue. That will only help the guys he is in charge of coaching.
From the past 12 years of following Bama, he HATES having to do something like this because it takes away from his focus, which is coaching the players.
It really is that simple. Before LBJ’s misbegotten “Great Society” crapola paid women if the man wasn’t in the house, black legitimacy rates were HIGHER than white legitimacy rates!
He may have proven that hes the ultimate players coach, but Saban has also shown hes a real sell out.
Nauseating.
The children would have been better served for the coach to give them a lesson about life, about how you don’t always get what you want, that life isn’t fair, and if you want to get anywhere in life you need to work hard.
How brain dead do these people have to be to buy into this garbage? No matter what comes along, they accept it without using their heads and asking questions about - WHAT INJUSTICE ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? The injustice of all you ballplayers being able to play games and getting paid handsomely for it?
How about the injustice of blacks killing blacks with no one to march for them? I don’t have any respect for anyone who proves every day they’re nothing but hypocrites; the inability to question what’s being peddled!! The need to “go along to get along” greater than the thought given to children brought up in such homes when killing isn’t even questioned.
Is this what it means to sell your soul to the DEVIL?
Well goodbye Alabama and college football.
I want to see Saban give away all his wealth to these black causes, I mean if your saying the bs then back it up.
“”So far, I have never had a single day in my life without their whining!!!””
I got all the way from the 1930’s to obozo’s “turn at bat” without giving any of it a thought. The country took care of the problems it had and without instigation, building a fire and throwing fuel on it, people settled down. This was not crammed down our throats but today? A different story, I’m afraid. Sure turned my thinking around!
Sorry, but to me, your #2 and #3 collide.
If Saban wants to appear conservative to gain the admiration of many in the South, but is actually a liberal politically, then he is going about it all wrong with having a video and now a march with his players.
Hes outed himself as a liberal. He doesnt really care what his players do off the field. He just doesnt want it to get in the way of winning trophies.
He doesnt care one whit about building men. This is proof.
Should have made clear that “being paid handsomely” was for PROFESSIONALS which I guess these guys will become some day.
