The Republicans have now forced the Democrats to change course and tactics, shed their narcissistic complacency, and recognize that they are in the fight of their lives.

Without the election of Lincoln in 1860 the country would have broken up, and without the reelection of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1940, Britain and Canada would have had to make peace with Germany and leave Hitler in control of most of Europe.

They may not be able to rebrand themselves. They are being torn apart by islamists, communists, anarchists, old school democrat “masters of the universe”, and propagandized “woke” useful idiots.
Here’s hoping the election in 2020 will be known as the “mostly successful” effort to elect and re-elect democrats.
LOL
“Oh, please. Roosevelt waited until we lost some 3,000 lives in Hawaii before he got off the pot.”
In this particular case, FDR and his advisors saw the war coming (of course, how could you NOT see it coming?). But they began to mobilize industry and enlarge the military quite significantly before Pearl Harbor. Roosevelt recognized that Germany, with its great base of industry and its advanced R&D capabilities, plus an educated and disciplined armed forces, presented a far greater threat to the US and the world than Japan. So we had Lend-Lease - passed over great objection from isolationists. We gave the Brits 50 destroyers as part of that. We sent incredible amounts of firearms, artillery and munitions to England. We even sent a couple of tankers full of very high octane aviation gas them, so that they could boost the superchargers on the Spitfires and Hurricanes, and gain a critically-needed edge in speed over the Luftwaffe.* In short, we did about everything possible to help England short of sending troops - which was a political impossibility in that era. This country was incredibly isolationist, and Congress only approved a reauthorization of the draft by a single vote (which did not go unnoticed in Japan - they cited it in post-war interrogations as a critical part of their assessment of our willingness to fight).
Note again that I despise FDR - he prolonged the Depression with his socialist policies, gave us the welfare state that is a plague on our economy, which undermines families and which flipped the subservient position of government vs. the people to one of master over us (in practical terms - not legally, of course). He is certainly NOT better than Trump - though he was more well-liked (yeah, I know, so what). But he does, indeed deserve credit for starting the mobilization of this country and largely secret support of England in 1940 and 1941.
* I know this about the aviation gas because I did a detailed report on the history of energy production in this country while in college. I came across an article detailing what we had done, and I was frankly stunned - it is quite possible that a seemingly tiny thing like the octane level of relatively small quantity of a fairly mundane item as gasoline could turn the tide of the most titanic struggle in human history. The gas gave the Brits the ability to get about 100 extra HP in their fighters, which translated to about 20 knots of additional speed, and that difference definitely helped them to win the Battle of Britain. No, of course it isn’t even close to solely responsible - but it gave that little extra edge that was pushed to the limit by the Brits. BTW, the av gas was developed by everyone’s favorite oil company to hate, Standard Oil. They put so much lead in the gas that it would cause the environmentalists of today to faint if they knew. :>)
You can’t really say that Johnson was in his second term, because he only served for about 14 months before his first full term started. But Vietnam was definitely caused by his policies, as the other 3 wars were blundered into by Democrats with seemingly no concept of how to deal with very aggressive foreign leaders. Trump, OTOH, has a great deal of success with them because he understands that many of them are little better than savages who respect one thing only - a big gun pointed at their heads by a guy willing to use it. Being a fairly ruthless businessman, Trump is used to very hard-fought negotiations, and understands that failure in those negotiations can break you.
What happened in Reagan’s second term was the culmination of policies and actions taken during the 1st. He needed the 2nd term to finish what he had started, but the heavy lifting was done early on. The fate of the USSR was sealed by about 1983. Losing the Senate in ‘86, plus the awful ‘86 immigration act (in which he got snookered into legalizing 3 million illegals for nothing in return but a promise to build a wall, plus the Iran-Contra affair, marred his second term and made it less successful. IMHO, Reagan’s first term was probably the single most successful first term in our history - a huge economic recovery, a huge military build-up, the beginning of the destruction of a tenacious and powerful enemy that had plagued us for 40 years, and the complete turn-around of morale in this nation was amazing. His tax cuts paved the way for a decade of solid economic growth.
Bush kicked the can down the road when he basically waved the white flag with his "Islam is a religion of peace" bullshite.
But no matter, this war is just getting started. And now the field of battle is getting cluttered with another existential conflict, the war between freedom and slavery (i.e., representative democracy and Marxism).
Correction: Trump has caused them to change direction.
The GOP is still hiding and is afraid of its own shadow.
The American people did not want war. Congress did not want war. The oil embargo on Japan was intended to stoke the fires and get them to provoke us and give us an entrance to the war and it succeeded. FDR wanted war and had to manufacture the conditions for it. Do a deep dive on history. What you are taught is not what happened. Japan did not attack us out of the blue. We literally peed in their Wheaties and spit in their eye hoping they would take a swing.

In all due fairness, back when the citizens’ opinions were worth something, Americans did not want the US in a war that involved countries far away with no US interest at stake. FDR, bankers, other globalists wanted to get involved prior to Pearl Harbor. After Japan attacked the US, we entered WW2 ... in the European theater(!)...starting in North Africa because the Brits convinced FDR US needed to help get at the so called Germany’s soft underbelly.
It is a false statement that but for the 1940 re-election of “indispensable FDR” Britain and Canada would have made a peace agreement with Hitler.
Actually Johnson was in his first term as elected outright regarding Vietnam,.
Trump will be easily re-elected.
However, the Senate is another matter. People know Trump is not a Republican, that's why they love him.
I have the Senate D+6 and the House D+15, because the GOP offers nothing to ordinary Americans (except, "we're not as bad as them").
Remember how vulnerable the GOP was especially in the Senate early in that election year. The Democrats had targeted Rob Portman in Ohio as one of the most vulnerable Republican incumbents in the U.S. Senate, for example. He ended up winning in a 21-point landslide.
Oh, please. Roosevelt waited until we lost some 3,000 lives in Hawaii before he got off the pot.
After the Great War the majority of Americans were not inclined to get in to another war. Also there were large segments of the population that were willing to enter the war on the German’s side.
Roosevelt did not have the support of the American people or Congress to get involved. He had problems with just sending supplies to Britain.
The Japanese attack against America was the only thing that could have unified the nation to support another war.
The contrast between party conventions could not have been greater.
<><> Democrats painted a picture of a country youd want to flee
<><> Democrats want to impose a racist hellhole built on oppression,
<><> Democrats resurrect a frightening Adolf Hitler Jr. regime
<><> Democrats are just waiting for the chance to seize absolute power.

And in the bgrnd are sperminator Hunter and the rest of the money-hungry Biden clan,
all lined up to loot and pillage the govt till, and kick taxpayers into perpetual poverty.
Precisely. FDR was buying much needed time. The Army was little more than a constabulatory, it needed mobilization, the draft, and training. The latter took time. The Navy needed ships and the Air Corps needed airplanes and trained pilots. Again, time was the critical path.
My father was commissioned in May, 1941 and immediately was sent to a Regular Army division. But, it was a division only on paper, the Regiments were at peacetime establishment with overaged officers and senior NCO's. They got busy, but it took time. His twin brother had been commissioned almost a year earlier, but he went to the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps), because mobilization had only gotten started.
I have the same opinion of FDR, but on this issue, he got good advice from the military and from Churchill.
Mr Black demonstrates excellent hindsight but his article is woefully lacking in foresight and a thorough understanding of the state of the world at this time. The entire world was on the verge of a complete takeover by the global elites when Donald Trump was elected. The Communist Chinese and the Islamic Jihadists were being used to weaken and ultimately vanquish America so that a world government could be established. The EU is a prototype—an unaccountable, un-elected bureaucracy with ultimate authority over the member states. “Climate change” was never about the environment. It’s all about a “carbon tax”. Once the United Nations has taxing authority over the member states, it can then issue more taxes—value added, property, income, sales, etc, etc.
THAT WOULD THEN FUND GLOBAL GOVERNANCE. The head of the UN has used tht phrase numerous time in the last ew years. He even thought that the pandemic provided a unique opportunity for establishing total control!
So, Mr. Black, you are so mistaken. This is NOT just the most important election in America’s history—
IT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!!!
It is a choice between representative democracy, freedom, and individualism or authoritarianism, subservience, and collectivism on a global scale. Like it or not, Donald J Trump is the best hope for all of humanity. And this is being understood worldwide: Germany, UK. India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Italy, Greece, France—EVERYWHERE!!!
So, with all due respect, Mr. Black, get your head out of your rear end.
