I remember the mailman coming into our little office and talking for a half an hour. Day after day....cuz he could get inside...not like a home. And yes, the mailbox was outside.

I remember the mailman coming into our little office and talking for a half an hour.
They can't do that anymore. They have to scan in at predetermined points along their route and if they are taking too long they get red-flagged. Also their trucks all have GPS. My friend who works at the post office says a carrier was disciplined because his truck was parked for too long in the same spot every day (behind the home of a woman he was having an affair with).
