Natural gas is very energy-dense, its easily transported, it creates almost no pollution, its available 24/7, its easily stored (in the ground), its cheap for consumers, and the footprint of a gas-electric plant is very small, unlike entire mountains covered with giant, ugly windmills.
So, of course, the idiotic Left is against it.
In California? Baloney! They have been tearing out dams with hydroelectric generators. Perhaps the greenie weenies expect to build hydroelectric plants without dams to run on spring melts only. That would make their power output even less reliable than solar or wind.

If I lived there, I would go to court to DEMAND that the plants close. The only chance for these Leftists to grow up is to stick their noses in their own Shiite, so they can, maybe, understand that there can be CONSEQUENCES for their ‘feel-good’ policies.
Also, if natural gas leaks into the atmosphere it does absolutely no damage.

Yup. A handful of nuke plants would end this mess. CA could build seven nuke plants for the price of the choo-choo to nowhere.
I read there is only one operational nuclear power plant left in California, and that one is scheduled to be decommissioned in a couple of years.
