Hurricane Laura emerged from the Caribbean Sea, leaving behind flooding and fatalities in Hispaniola and Cuba. Former Hurricane Marco dissipated Tuesday morning, a few hours before Laura strengthened to a hurricane.

Tornado Warning Baton Rouge.
The value of this map is that it highlights thunderstorms (with potential tornadic activity) -- and shows that the LA coast is already being hit by Laura-spawned T-storms.
Also, it indicates that, as Laura moves inland, the leading-edge T=storm activity will probably extend at least as far down the Texas coast as Port Lavaca.
TXnMA (Preparing to hunker down...)
My reaction as well to that radar.
Interesting map. Thanks for posting the link!
Thanks for the link. Be Safe!
Recon currently supports 130-135 winds (CAT 4)
At landfall or now?
pressure continues steady drop low 950’s now per recon
Pressure down to 950 mb
At landfall or now?
right now
Thank you
If it’s not projected to turn north until this evening then houston might not be totally spared. Ugh.
200 PM EDT Update
Location...About 200 MI SSE of Lake Charles LA
...About 200 MI SSE of Galveston TX
Max Sustained Winds...140 MPH
Moving...NW at 16 MPH
Minimum Pressure...952 MB
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center
and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles
even if it goes a little west then forecast HOU will still be on the weaker side,,,there might be interesting Bay side surge (surge coming in from the NW to Galveston
If this had hit just SW of Galveston TX, this would have been costliest hurricane in history and would have crippled a good chunk of the US oil and gas infrastructure
Still, The Golden Triangle to Cake Charles has some oil and gas infrastructure and chemical plants....and isn't exactly rural
BeaumontPort Arthur metropolitan area 400,000
Lake Charles Metropolitan Area 200,000 people
many of those will be flooded by surge
The Greenbrier Valley and Allegheny Highlands along the WV VA border are definitely flood prone from hurricane remnants.
Max Sustained Winds...140 MPH
Moving...NW at 16 MPH
Minimum Pressure...952 MB
Pressure is actually on the High end for a 140 MPH storm
I suspect the winds may start to level off but the pressure continue to drop at a steady rate
Prayers sent for everyone in the Lake Charles, LA area and the Texas border..Laura is a MONSTER now a CAT 4, prayers sent for everyone in the path
At least it’s a mostly peaceful hurricane
