Before you make fun of conservative social media personalities, dear liberals, I urge you to consider the plight of Cher.

Prior to Cher launching into her latest strange Twitter meltdown, we were told the United States Postal Service was in trouble.

It wasn't supposed to be able to handle the massive influx of mail it was set to receive if there were to be widespread mail-in voting for November's election. And now, liberals want the Postal Service to be bailed out because otherwise, how will we be able to cast our ballots this fall?

many opportunities for employment at the Postal Service, including seasonal hiring," she said, in addition to providing a link to seasonal jobs.

However, most Postal Service seasonal jobs don't require you pull the, "Do you know who I am? I'm Cher!" card not once but twice.

“My bet is she’s too stupid to pass the postal exam.”

Cher is too stupid to make ice cubes.

Also, with so many people ordering more things over the internet since covid, it has increased the amount of packages the USPS is handling.

For example, ACE Hardware reported a 498% increase in internet orders over the same 2nd quarter in 2019. Therefore, all those internet orders need to be delivered by someone(USPS, UPS, Fedex)

Amazon? They use the USPS quite a bit. Not sure if they pay more than us common folks but I know that there is one USPS truck near us that does nothing but Amazon deliveries. Sundays included. Surely more reasons but that’s one I believe. Others? Bueller?

Trump inherited a dysfunctional USPS
The Board of Governors ( 11 members appointed by Pres and confirmed by Senate, who choose the Postmaster General and Deputy, like a corporate board selects a CEO) that is supposed to oversee its operations was nonexistent from 2014. The USPS operated in an “ emergency” status with basically only 2 people ( Postmaster General and Deputy) exercising oversight...plus the unions, of course.

Trump began to reestablish the Board of Gov by 2019 and all of his appointees ( including a former obama official) were unanimously confirmed by the Senate, including Lovejoy who was just appointed in May when the predecessor retired. Note that the USPS Board is comprised of top level corporate execs not letter carriers, because their job is to run it as a business, not a govt agency. So yes, you will find political donors as appointees. But then...Senate must confirm!

I wonder if she knows that as a USPS Postal worker she would have to take an oath -

“I, _Cher, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;
that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter.”

The new guy decided that preventing going bankrupt was more important than 2-day mail delivery, so he suspended overtime. PO workers are returning with items still in their trucks, when before they were driving until they finished.

Nothing 3 billion dollars couldn’t fix; Trump offered 10 billion, but the democrats rejected it.

However, they are going to reverse that now, and allow overtime until after the election, I think.

A week before and after the election the Post Office should just shunt off junk mail. It can wait to be delivered. I don’t need any more catalogs and appeals for money.

Just sort and deliver first class mail and packages.
They can shunt off my bills too.

This mail in voting is really a mess. It really worries me. Trump will have to win overwhelmingly to combat all the “suddenly found” votes.

So, is it just that the volume is up due to more people buying things over the internet than driving to Walmart, etc?

Amazon pays a lot less than you and I do, and lot less.

It’s reported the post office loses money on every Amazon package.

Trump has complained about that for a long time.

Yes, USPS has a next day delivery contract with Amazon. So, even IF that NEXT day is a Sunday, they have to deliver.

Are all postal delivery workers paid an hourly wage? Not a salary? I did not realize that they were paid so much overtime.

IF they discontinued their overtime pay, that would be why people have caught USPS employees on video dumping mail into garbage dumpsters.

I despise junk mail, especially the anonymous recipient kind that gets shoved into every mailbox, and the idea that the USPS can’t survive without that revenue stream is just another reason it needs to be totally overhauled if not outright eliminated.

It’s funny how the environmentalists are constantly whining about sustainability, yet we have the USPS shoving a constant flow of refuse into essentially every home in the US on a daily or weekly basis that generally goes straight into a landfill, and no one says boo about it.

How much less collective waste would we eliminate if we just stopped USPS from delivering circulars to “resident”?

I work right next door to an Amazon van parking lot. It is the location of a former warehouse grocery store that closed. It was a Builders Square back in the 90’s. Then a Building 19. It sat empty for about two years.

Now, the parking lot is full of Amazon delivery vans. Mostly the Mercedes vans that professional service companies use(like my electrician). There has to be 60 vans that are parked in this lot every night. This is not an Amazon warehouse. Just a place to park their vans. See the following article:

When I left active duty military, I was still young and looking for what to do next for a career. I had a college degree but decided to check out the post office because they had benefits and retirement available. So I signed up to take the post office exam.

The test was administered in a big auditorium at a local school. The room was about 3/4 full with people to take the test. A lot of competition I thought at the time.

The test was in booklet form. I answered all of the questions and looked around and no one had stood up yet to turn in their test, so I went back through the entire test again, checking my answers. It was not a difficult test. A lot of memory questions.

After taking the text a second time, still no one had stood up to turn in their booklet. I thought maybe I was missing something that I overlooked, so I went back through the test booklet again.

After the third time, I walked to the front of the auditorium where the test monitors were and turned in my booklet. One of them asked me was I sure I was done because I still had time and could go back through and check my answers if I wanted. I just answered that I had already done that and was finished. I was the first one to complete the test and turn it in.

Several weeks later, I got a letter in the mail offering me to fill out an application for employment with the post office. After thinking about it, for awhile, I decided to pass. I figured if the test was that easy, that the job itself wouldn't be challenging enough for me and I would get bored quickly.

Lesson from my story? You don't have to be a rocket scientist to work at the post office. I always wondered why all the other people in that auditorium that day were still taking their tests after I had essentially taken it three times and still managed to finish first. It confirmed to me that I made the right decision to find something else to do for a career that was more mentally challenging.
