With the last effects of Chicagos looting sprees, its a tense time near the Loop and the Magnificent Mile, not only for the businesses that were hit but also for everyone who lives and works in the city. Now more problems could leave people to leave these neighborhoods.
The citys second ward alderman said he knows many people are on the edge and poised to leave, but it wouldnt mean just empty units or storefronts. A mass exodus could gut Chicagos tax base, causing a citywide ripple effect.
Drive onto the Mag Mile and at first all seems normal. Keep driving, and youll notice its anything but. Chicago police cars are parked everywhere blue lights flashing. Stores are still boarded up. Its all a response to two rounds of looting

If it happens a third time, people who are just hanging onto a belief that downtown is still a place to live and shop are going to give up, said Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd). Were going to lose people. Theyre going to move. Were already seeing that start to happen.
The citys Second Ward includes the northern part of the Mag Mile, but its not just residents bailing that concerns him. Its the potential for businesses to bail, too. He points out his ward and one other bring in about 40% of the citys property tax revenue every year.

According to the 2010 census the city of Jackson Michigan is 73.9% White.
One funny thing about my hometown, *everyone* is in politics. Aldermen, Ward Heelers, somehow, all of the adults are involved.
I havent been to Chi-Town in decades, but, I still love her. Such an amazing place to grow up.
This breaks my heart.
It was already dying, and has been since the 1960s flight to the burbs. Antifa managed to finish it off in a few short weeks.

People are fleeing NYC at the rate of 3000 per day. Cuomo has actually written a book about the bang up job he did on CV management.
Well done, Andy and Warren Wilhelm Jr.
The wealth will soon be gone. Then what? The same is happening in the Second City.
Terrorists could not bring NYC down. You need democrats for that.
The left didn’t mind when the “information superhighway” gutted America’s white-collar workforce (sending jobs overseas); now listen to them howl as it guts the cities (sending jobs to the ‘burbs).
Thank you. The very nice lady who returned my call was in California. That meant she responded by 0615 her time. She was NOT happy.
I think the point is that a polite phone call expressing displeasure at this crap can work, at least sometimes.

Nicely done.
Im so very proud of you. Shine the light brother.
There was a lot of crime taking place on the Mag Mile, going back to the late Daley years, that the regular media refused to cover and the politicians refused to address. Second City Cop was about the only source covering the street crimes and organized shoplifting taking place.
I remember remarking—maybe here—that West Madison Street’s decline (before it was incinerated in 1968) began in much the same fashion.
Should have done something about the rioting & looting when you had the chance. Maybe you’ll get a second chance if some of it is rebuilt & the rioters/looters/BLM/Antifa/whatever come back for more.
True.
