NASA is actively monitoring a strange anomaly in Earth's magnetic field: a giant region of lower magnetic intensity in the skies above the planet, stretching out between South America and southwest Africa.

The primary source is considered to be a swirling ocean of molten iron inside Earth's outer core, thousands of kilometres below the ground. The movement of that mass generates electrical currents that create Earth's magnetic field, but not necessarily uniformly, it seems.

Iron isn’t the only metal found in Earth’s interior. I would think that heavier metals like Uranium and lead are represented as well as all the others, gold, silver, platinum, etc.

Iron would be lighter than these metals and could ‘float’ on top of them, possibly moving around like a bubble on a lake........................

This is not new. Its known as the SAA, South Atlantic Anomaly, and has been documented for decades. For spacecraft in low Earth orbit, it has been associated with spacecraft anomalies like computer single event upsets because the theory would say that more space radiation can sneak through the magnetic belts here, and proton or electron strikes can mess with micro circuits or memory bits.

Oddly enough, it seems to be sorta centered over Paraguay. No offence to the inhabitants of that fine country, but given it’s mostly swamp and forest, I think we can rule technology out as the cause.

Unless it’s aliens, then all bets are off.
