South Dakota turned down extra federal unemployment aid Friday due to the high rate of job recovery in the state.
Gov. Kristi Noem (R), a vocal ally of the White House, said South Dakota did not need the additional funds because workers in her state have been rehired and that its economy is rebounding after suffering economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, according to The Hill.
In a statement, Noem praised President Donald Trumps leadership during recovery and said her administration was very grateful for the additional flexibility that this effort would have provided, but South Dakota is in the fortunate position of not needing to accept it.
The governor continued:
South Dakotas economy, having never been shut down, has recovered nearly 80% of our job losses. South Dakota is the only state in the nation that didnt have extended benefits kick in because our insured unemployment rate has been the lowest in the nation. We have the third best housing construction market in the country. And many, many businesses are looking to relocate to South Dakota because of the decisions we made during the pandemic. South Dakota is open for business that applies to our business owners and their employees.

I really like her. She turns me on. Shhh. Don’t tell my wife.
Nope - time to replace Pence with her on the 2020 ticket!
A real leader
IMHO Trump should dump Pence from the ticket and add her.
All of the Mask Karens out there will never go for it though.
I wouldn’t rock the boat right now. Trump’s doing fine. C’mon man. Byedone has only one way to go. Down!
Dumping your VP would be a political disaster
Totally agree. One of the major reasons we are all still stuck in COVID Hell is Pence’s leadership of the task force (or lack thereof). He should have kept his little dog Fauci off of our lawn.
South Dakota’s economy has recovered to the point that they don’t need extra help is largely because Gov. Noem largely ignored the insanity.
I watched her speech before Trump’s at Mount Rushmore and was very, very impressed by her.
I’d support her in the 2024 primary. We will see.
Handouts are handcuffs. Good for her.
Great minds, and all that....
I’m thinking same as you in your post #1.
There is a way SD with this governor could save the republic. By itself.
Establish a PAC for one thing: re-establishing an actual constitutional militia— 100% controlled by the state, with no overseas deployments, and compulsory service. Every able-bodied man provides a service to the militia. Everyone.
SD has a weird law allowing snowbirds and whoever birds to establish residency ridiculously quick. It enough conservatives could land in the counties to gain a supermajority in the house (the senate already has a supermajority), then.....WHA-LAH! State constitutional amendment.
That would mean the systematic rebuilding of men, service to the state, and the elimination of scourges of society: name your gang, drug cartels, and eliminating any need for federal disaster aid.
In short, it becomes the model for all other states to follow, cutting public safety easily in half and eliminating a LOT of federal organizations. Border patrol? That is a militia function specified in the US Constitution. There are tons of applications for an entity that is “the only governmental organization stated as NECESSARY by the Founding Fathers. Congress isn’t even necessary.
The militia is the only entity described as being necessary, and we screwed it up.
We can take it back if we worked together on the project.
Agree.
Here in Hot Springs everyone is hiring
If I were single and nothing holding me, I’d look at SD close.
My favorite town in West River!
Lol.thanks.
We lost the best ice cream place, Chinese restaurant and the best Bar in town to a fire.
