More than 100 prominent Black American men called on Monday for Joe Biden to pick a Black woman as his running mate, as the former vice president closes in on his decision.
Entertainment mogul Sean Diddy Combs, radio personality and The Breakfast Club co-host Lenard Charlamagne Tha God McKelvey, former NFL defensive end Michael Bennett, civil rights lawyer Benjamin Crump and many others signed the open letter to Biden.
As someone who has said throughout the campaign that VP Joe Biden needs to choose a Black woman VP, the urgency for that pick has gone from something that SHOULD happen to something that HAS to happen, the letter said.
The letter denounced the treatment of some of Bidens potential picks, including Sen. Kamala Harris over her perceived ambition and her debate attacks on Bidens civil rights record when she was a rival candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.
It disgusts us that Black women are not just being vetted in this VP process but unfairly criticized and scrutinized, the letter said. Was Joe Biden ever labeled too ambitious because he ran for president three times? Why does Senator Kamala Harris [D-Calif.] have to show remorse for questioning Biden's previous stance on integrated busing during a Democratic primary debate?
Among the names on the letter are entertainer Nick Cannon, Bishop William J. Barber and CNN political contributor Van Jones. No nationally prominent Black political figures were listed as signers.
The letter isnt the first time Combs and Charlamagne Tha God have talked about Bidens campaign. Both Biden and Charlamagne made headlines in May when, during an interview on his radio show, Biden said Black Americans who support President Trump aint Black.

Can’t live with em, can’t live without em.
If Hillary can’t be VP, then Biden will have to step aside early so she can head the ticket.
I don’t know about everyone else, but that sounds pretty frikkin RACIST to me.
What, exactly, is a black leader?
Think Jesse Jackson 1988. Belittled the 6 other ‘dwarfs’ who were allwhite. The only one that stood up to him was Al Gore who had a ‘conservative’ foreign policy and said a preacher shouldn’t be president.
I wonder if they’ve given any thought to the qualifications/experience of ‘a’ generic Black female.
I’m sure there are some who would make good VPs; but they’re probably too smart to run on a Biden ticket.
Means all the Rappers who call women bitches and hos are demanding a black female VP?
Harris Faulkner???? Candace Owens?????
Sounds just like an affirmative action election?
MLK - I have a dream, where a person will be judged by the content of their character not the color of their skin.
Prominent black Democrats - We must judge folks by the color of their skin.
At this point, the Biden campaign is so boxed in on this that there’d be absolute hell to pay if he didn’t pick a black woman. Luckily for our side, none of the talked-about coterie of black women are great. Mooch would probably be the strongest, but I don’t think she’s likely.
What if #JoeBiden #SleepyJoe #biden picked a white man who identifies as a black woman for #VP #VPPick Would the left be ok with that? #Trump2020 #WalkAwayFromDemocrats #DemocratsAreDestroyingAmerica #VoteRed
Sorry, I just searched on the Yahoo News headline.
Sounds racist to me.
Sure they do, its not who you are its what you are that counts, and we wonder why we are in so much sh## today. Just look at the quality of politician running democratic counties, cities, states, and appointed AG’s and judges.
There are times when capitalizing black doesn’t seem wrong, but in this particular article, it is off-putting, I keep thinking there is some woman whose name is “Black” that they want to appoint as VP.
Have you noticed that there was not a single transgender woman ever listed as a possibility for Biden’s search?
Why not? It is like Biden is admitting that transgender women are not actually women.
