Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) rejected calls for federal HOPE response to the looting and violence overnight in Chicago, opting instead to push for more gun control.
A reporter asked Mayor Lightfoot about Illinois House Republican Jim Durkin’s calls for the National Guard and others to step in and restore order. She responded by making clear she does not want “federal troops” in Chicago. Rather, she wants more gun control.
Lightfoot called for “common sense gun control,” saying, “We cannot continue to have circumstances where anybody and their brother can go across the border, or into other parts of Illinois, and bring illegal guns into the city of Chicago.”
Breitbart News reported that rioters and looters took to the streets of downtown Chicago hours after a 20-year-old man was shot and wounded by police in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood on Sunday afternoon.
Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown described the 20-year-old as an armed male who allegedly pointed a gun at officers and “shot at officers first.”
Police returned fire and wounded the suspect, and he was hospitalized thereafter.
Brown indicated that calls for looting in downtown Chicago were issued via social media in reaction to the shooting, and he sent 400 officers into downtown. But Breitbart News reported looting and violence still took place, and this included gunfire and violence against police.

Of course, disarm the citizen will end the riots... or allow her cops to control the pogrom and pick up from the looters afterwards

I thought Chicago already had gun control, and no Lori, guns coming in from other states is not the problem, if it s those other states would have more homicides than you have.

They have convinced themselves that they would rather have the current ride than anything led by the GOP. That's what we're dealing with in much of today's America.

Please tell us, Mayor Lighthead, how “gun control” is going to stop all that destruction and looting I watched on several videos...I didn’t see one gun or hear one shot fired, but I saw several hundreds of thousands of dollars damage...
If we outlawed Nikes, no one would loot the Nike store.
Build a wall around Chicago and don’t let anyone in or out.
You had all the gun control in the world, you fool. It did nothing. Absolutely nothing. The violence of your failed experiment was out of control even before the Supreme Court stepped in to restore the constitutional rights of the people living there. Guns aren’t your problem; PEOPLE are.
Fix your policies so you recognize the reality of the people you have living there and the conditions you’ve kept them in for generations or sit back and watch them burn that place to the ground.

I guess the looters were using gun butts for breaking glass on stores. Gun control will solve that problem Ms/Mr/Mrs Mayor.
That lightfoot person in chicago is in over the cranium. Needs to be sent out to pasture. Completely incompetent for the job.
