CHICAGO (CBS) Is Chicagos Magnificent Mile at risk for massive store closures? Just two months ago it was the epicenter of unrest. Then this week there was a murder on Oak Street and Michigan Avenue. All of that is on top of a pandemic that has taken a toll on everyone.
A Chicago icon, the Magnificent Miles 13 blocks are known across the world. Its a draw for tourists and a serious boost to the citys bottom line. What would the city look like without all of this? Hopkins says we could find out.
There are existing vacancies, some stores still boarded up, others dealing with plummeting sales,
Were losing tax revenue, and we are losing sales tax on a daily basis, he said. If this trend continues, we wont have a viable downtown. And its not going to be that long. Were talking a few years. Privately theyre telling me they cant sustain this. They cant continue at the level theyre at right now, and if it keeps up, we are going to see a rash of business closures in the downtown area.
Hopkins was in a meeting with Mayor Lori Lightfoot and business owners in the area who were expressing their concerns, when the shooting happened Tuesday afternoon. Rapper FBG Duck was shot and killed. Two others were seriously injured.
Nordstrom and Bloomingdales and Ferragamo, and all large Marquee stores that are on the avenue here attract people from all over the world and all over the U.S. and Chicago, said Mike Riordan of the River North Residents Association. Its one thing to lose control one weekend, but then its another thing for this stuff to keep on going. It opened the floodgates to a bunch of brazenness and lawlessness that weve never seen here before.

Damn........ those graphics tell a story so dramatically it can not be misunderstood
Thanks for that
Ive figured out why the propaganda for Black Lives Matter must be pushed so hard by Democrats and our controlled, corrupt media - because in fact, black society and morality are actually regressing under control of the Lefts narrative, and the world sees it. Its a form of over-compensation.
The more something becomes obvious, the louder they must shout otherwise.
It isnt the pandemic that has taken a toll on everyone, it is the moronic and/or corrupt response by our leaders, with help from a whole boatload of fearbros and Karens, that has.
THANK LORI CLUBFOOT AND HER PUKES
FBG Duck?. .I guess he didn’t
BTW, is it legally possible to impeach a mayor in Illinois?
Depends on what the city charter (and state laws) says that set up the city government.
Meeting with Groot was a waste of time.
Check all the numbers at 38.
Portland-Boise is the record that I found:
Portland OR to Boise ID: $1,242
Boise ID to Portland OR: $91 large truck special 13.6 X cheaper!
Nobody is moving from Idaho to Oregon, but they sure are going the other way!
It’s the Detroit Death Spiral in speeded-up time.
>> Thats the night Chicago died.<<
Nananaaa nananaaa nanaaa nana nanNAAAAA na na naa naa naaaaaaa
13.6X says to me that not only are they not moving in that direction, you cant even hire someone in Idaho to willing to drive a truck back to Portland!
They are getting what they voted for and they deserve what they will continue to vote for.

Guaranteed that each of those stores voiced their support for blm. They probably even gave cash. Remember these businesses are very familiar with this shakedown having been the Rainbow Coalitions feeding ground for decades.
The rioting in Chicago have opened the Dyke.
Solution: Cut the police budget.

And refuse all offers of assistance from Trump.
I looked at the UHaul report, too. Denver to FLA, $2,500. FLA to Denver, $700.
You mean, it WAS a draw for tourists.
Lots of them are closed this morning due to a riot that lasted damned near 8 hours.
