WASHINGTON - A teenage boy is dead and a D.C. police officer is struggling for her life after a mass shooting at a cookout early Sunday in Southeast D.C.
There were 21 victims in total wounded at the scene, police say.
Neighbors described chaos after shots rang out at the party around 12:20 a.m. in the 3300 block of Dubois Place, Southeast.
17-year-old Christopher "Poppy" Brown later died at a nearby hospital.
Firefighters at the scene told FOX 5 they transported nine other victims to hospitals. Other victims walked themselves to hospitals or fire stations for treatment.
Police placed more than 100 evidence placards at the scene.

A good survival tip for black people or anyone in this day and age: if you live in a high crime area, do not attend large gatherings at any time of day. Also in high crime areas, stay out of all nightclubs and recording studios.
Some people admire LBJ as the ultimate deal making politician. I do not. He was one of the worst presidents in our Republic’s history. And he absolutely destroyed the black family and black communities.
We hear gunshots all the time here, it's just people having fun target practicing - although we do have one dog it upsets.
On another note I did see in the newspaper under the police reports that someone reported guns going off - police officer explained to complainer that it's not against the law to shoot guns. :) It made me smile.

I'm so old that I can remember when even MA and CT were the same way as you describe...{:-(
When I lived in VA, we had such a law on the books (that REQUIRED a 10-20 year prison sentence, W/O parole/probation, at hard labor), which in the FEW cases where it was actually used, worked WELL to get VICIOUS PREDATORS off the street.
The REAL PROBLEM was that the “lily-livered” members of the prosecutor’s offices decided to NOT use that effective weapon against the VIOLENT CRIMINALS, as it was “believed by the leftists & ‘mass media types’ that using the law would “fall hardest upon people of color”.
(The other “problem” with using “THE BIG HAMMER” against the VIOLENT CRIMINALS was that it was believed that MOST of such cases would be those where both the victim & the predator were “persons of color”. - Sadly, many people really do NOT believe that “the poor”, “minority group members” & other “unfavored group persons” are NOT as valuable to society as “white people” are.)
The law was “allowed to expire” under the “sunset provisions”.
