Just woke up to an earthquake in Raleigh, NC. My Earthquake3D app says it was a 5.1 magnitude near Sparta. Friends on Facebook reporting it from mountains to sea.
No news on it yet... so here you go!
"Can you say caldera? I knew you could!"
That much is true.
I've been avoiding the TV series for three years now, inasmuch as three minutes of Costner playing himself is more than I can take.
Just my luck. I slept through it 10 miles east of Lenoir which is 40 air mile from the epicenter. I will now go and get ready for the plague of locusts, hail stones, lightning bolts from the heavens that I am sure will follow.
While I would never want to be in a situation requiring earthquake bolts...they do add a nice touch to those old Charleston houses...
Here in beautiful downtown Bat Cave NC, a hair clip fell off my wife’s dresser, I stepped on it and broke it. We will rebuild.
“Over 38K have reported feeling on USGS site so, clearly, it was felt ;)”
I am not questioning that it happened, I am just saying that I did not notice anything unusual.
Felt like trembling from a good thunderstorm.
Yellowstone would be disruptive. But it did not wipe out human beings last time. And it wont this time either.
I live far enough away ,that aside from the loss of some pretty nice spots...it would be fascinating to watch. You know, like a big train wreck.
“We will rebuild.”
Have FEMA and the Red Cross arrived yet? Be vigilante as looters may try to take advantage of your current miseries.
Prayers that you’re able to soon get your lives back together.
Dutchsinse just went live at 11:10 central time
Didn’t feel it but I’m in a big apartment building.
I felt it in Cary. I was upstairs, husband downstairs did not feel it. My Mom lives about 20 miles from Sparta in VA and she slept through it.
Start of the week: hurricane
End of the week: earthquake
Yee Haw!
“Felt it in NE GA”
Same here.
I went to a little Christian college there in Wendell many moons ago :)
LOL
Indeed the last thing you ever see.
Pretty close. Lake Tugalo crosses the SC border into my county.
M 5.1 - 3 km SE of Sparta, North Carolina

Any military bases there?
Great resource.
Thanks.
