Freed from jail amid coronavirus, VA rape suspect kills accuser: report

A Virginia rape suspect, who was released from jail because of concerns regarding the new coronavirus, went on to kill the woman who had accused him, according to police.

The Washington Post was first to report that Ibrahim E. Bouaichi shot and killed the woman in late July, after he was released April 9, according to the newspaper and Alexandria police.

Bouaichi was indicted last year on charges that included rape, strangulation and abduction. The woman, whom police identified as Karla Elizabeth Dominguez Gonzalez, testified against him in Alexandria District Court in December.

He was jailed without bond in Alexandria – until the pandemic hit. Bouaichi’s lawyers argued that he should be freed awaiting trial because the virus endangered inmates and their attorneys. He was released on a $25,000 bond over the objections of a prosecutor.

Circuit Court Judge Nolan Dawkins released Bouaichi on the condition that he only leave his Maryland home to meet with his lawyers or pretrial services officials.

He is accused of killing Gonzalez on July 29.

Meanwhile, Dawkins retired in June. He did not respond to the Washington Post’s request for comment.

Bouaichi’s attorneys, Manuel Leiva and Frank Salvato, said in a statement that they were “certainly saddened by the tragedy both families have suffered here.” The lawyers said they “were looking forward to trial. Unfortunately, the pandemic continued the trial date by several months and we didn’t get the chance to put forth our case.”

A violent criminal rapist didn’t obey the judge’s orders.

No one could have foreseen this.

When I saw Maryland, I thought that he was a Lockdown Larry special, but since he was indicted in Virginia, he’s actually a Biden-Northam special.

(Hey, if people can blame Trump for governor-imposed lockdown misery and HCQ-suppressed, as well as governor-caused, COVID-19 deaths, then I can certainly blame Biden and Northam for the egregious decision to release this turkey.)

This happened in Washington.
Charles Rodman Campbell raped Renae Wicklund in 1974. Was finally caught in 76. And sentenced to 40 years. He was paroled in 1981.
Wicklund and her husband had divorced due to the rape. He was later found tied to a chair and burned. A few months later he died in a car crash. So it was just Wicklund and her 9 year old daughter Shannah.
Campbel vowed at his trial that he would kill both Wicklund and her next door neighbor Barbara Hendrickson, who had testified at the trail. Campbell was released only a few miles from their home in Clearview, WA. WITHOUT WICKLUND OR HENDRICKSON BEING NOTIFIED.

On April 14, 1982, Campbell on his lunch hour broke into Wicklunds house, raped and beat her then cut her throat. Her daughter Shannah came home from school and was raped, beaten and had her hear nearly cut off when he cut her throat. Mrs. Hendrickson later came by to check on Wicklund, because she had been sick. Campbell assaulted Hendrickson when she entered the house. Then had her throat cut. Campbell left several clues behind in the house plus stole Wicklunds jewelry, which left a trail straight to him.

Campbell was finally hanged on May 27, 1994.

The state paid damages in the millions to the families of the victims for the incompetence and corruption of the state parol system.

I studied this case while at the Police Academy in Seattle in 1985. It was an horrific crime. Even Gov. Mike Lowry couldn’t find a reason to save this scumbags life.

In a better, more just era he would be dragged out of house and hanged from the nearest tree.
