After nearly 100 years, Eskimo Pie ice cream will get a new name.
"We are committed to being a part of the solution on racial equality, and recognize the term is derogatory," Elizabell Marquez, head of marketing for parent company Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, told CNN in a statement.
The chocolate-covered vanilla ice cream bar joins brands such as Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben's in overhauling long-used names and marketing strategies considered racially offensive...
The name "Eskimo" is commonly used in Alaska to refer to Inuit and Yupik people, according to the Alaska Native Language Center at the University of Alaska. "This name is considered derogatory in many other places because it was given by non-Inuit people and was said to mean 'eater of raw meat.'"

I hope these companies that do this sort of thing lose a lot of money on this nonsense. They deserve to go out of business.
Black-face pie: white on the inside and black on the outside
Most likely it was a Anglicization of an native word. Much like how aroughcoune is Algonquian, and racoon is the English version. Regardless even European last names often came from landmarks near where a family lived. The Italian name Bevilacqua means drink the water and probably came from people who lived near a well with sweet water.
I wonder if a certain brand of cut tobacco would be offensive today?
Pie is obviously wrong so Pi is probably wrong too.
Which means we will have to rethink EVERYTHING.
Incidentally. . . we’ve been meaning to talk with you about your username . . .
This is fine, don’t have to buy this product either. Won’t buy any of them any more.
Agreed. I don’t mean to suggest that the word is actually racist. Just that the left is trying to have their cake and eat it too, by claiming that the word is racist and obscuring the originator of their claimed racism.
Of course the names most tribes give themselves mean some variation of "The People" with the rest of the world being "Not-People". Which means that in the literal sense of the word their names are quite racist.
Learn to shrug and get over it.
It Will Not end because we no longer have any John Wayne’s left!
Eskimo not derogatory and the Inuit used to eat raw meat(blubber and fish). Some probably still do.
White liberals decided Eskimo is derogatory because they need all the excuses to point fingers that they can get their vermin claws on.
I eat sushi and sashimi.
Reminds me of the MASH song. .. Oh Tokyo. ...
In Japan, the northern native people are called Ainu.

I lived many years in Hokkaido. They are proud of their heritage.
I think the Eskimo people are great. I really hate this PC crap. Stinking liberals are destroying our country.
