The extra $600 in weekly unemployment benefits provided the federal government to Americans amid the coronavirus pandemic is expected to expire after Friday as Congress struggles to agree upon the next stimulus package.
A few Republican senators are pitching a last-minute proposal.....
....The proposal suggests allowing states to choose between reducing the unemployment benefits to an 80% wage replacement rate or gradually reducing the extra benefits to $500 per week in August, $400 per week in September, or $300 per week in October.
Until a deal is reached between both parties, jobless Americans will not receive any unemployment benefits beyond what their states allow. Most states pay those benefits on weeks ending on Saturday or Sunday. That means July 25 or July 26 was the last time those workers got the extra $600.......

The sooner people face reality the better.
Better to tear the bandaid off now and get it over with. As long as they get an extra six hundred a week there is no incentive to go back to work. When people realize the $600 is gone they will find work. As long as it is continued they will be happy to stay at home.
The Stupid party is never fails to disappoint. Keep the $600 coming and sunset it for the day after election day. If Trump wins, adjust it as needed. If Biden wins, watch it bump up to $1200 a week.
Still trying to get laid off from retirement. So far, nuthin’.
I wish Romney would slither back into his hole.

The despicable SNAKE is doing all he can to help the DemocRATS SLOW THE REOPENING!
Well here’s some good news: I grew up in New York city, I have a lot of black friends who still live there and they LOVE Trump. “Obama and Biden never gave me sh**, Trump giving me $1000 a week!” I’m hearing that a lot, so although it’s messing up the economy by people not wanting to work, in the long run it may be worth it if it prevents the domestic enemies and their puppet candidate from taking power. If they take power, we won’t have an economy at all.
I dunno, I think Trump laid out a good outline strategy the other day when speaking to reporters on the way to Texas.
The House thinks if they hold out they can force the Senate to come closer to their side.
But Trump put it pretty plain: 1) Extend the benefits, 2) prevent evictions and 3) liability protections.
If the Senate passes a simple bill like that and sends it to the House I don’t see how the House can reject it. Because the political reality is every GOP candidate will go home for recess campaigning telling the voters that they offered relief for renters and the unemployed and the Democrats rejected it. “The reason you got nothing is because the Democrats refused to give you something”.
I know a guy who has been improperly getting $600 a week.
He’s also been confident it will be extended.
I think that unemployment numbers are going to remain high for a long time. Businesses that survived have learned to adapt with fewer employees. Service sector is either nearly entirely shut down or capacity and time limited so they don’t need as many staff - and even if re-opened hard to know how many people are willing to jump right into crowded bars and restaurants (the younger set maybe, but without the $1200 a week can they afford it?). Many have realized they actually can work from home, they don’t need to pay rent on an office - bad for landlords and those who service commercial properties... and so on.
Good opportunities ahead for those with savings, I suppose, to start their own businesses. But that’s a process and always a risky one especially in the medium term until people feel confident in a recovery.
Without reading let me guess.....Murkowski and Collins?
They will need to do this every 3 months especially with Christmas coming up...
They ain’t gonna find work
This ain’t January
Restaurant Association thinks 60% of restaurants will be closed forever and that is just for starters.
I sell freakin coffee and what was an easy job is now incredibly hard...
So Romney’s plan will cause disincentives to work for a living, causing people to get used to staying home and demanding more government money. Socialism.
Is that man Romney an American Hero or what?
My choice: what.
Yep, we are facing a crisis of epic proportions. I have no idea why some here are clueless. Many jobs will not return, opening up or not. Extend the benefits for a while and then deport ALL (and I do mean ALL) visa holders. We can’t justify spending trillions on unemployment as long as we have foreign nationals here taking jobs.
Nooooooooooo. So much cheating going on. Everyone I know who is receiving this money is not eligible. No one is checking for fraud.
“””Restaurant Association thinks 60% of restaurants will be closed forever and that is just for starters.””
I don’t believe it. We are creatures of habit. People want to get back to eating at restaurants and leaving the house.
