Attorney General William Barr is expected to come out swinging when he testifies on Capitol Hill Tuesday, accusing Democrats of falsely seeking to paint him as a Trump loyalist and challenging them to denounce violence in Portland, Ore.
In particular, Barr will seek to defend himself against what he calls attempts by Democrats to "discredit" him because he chose to investigate the origins of the FBI's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to a copy of his opening statement obtained by The Hill.
"Ever since I made it clear that I was going to do everything I could to get to the bottom of the grave abuses involved in the bogus 'Russiagate scandal,' many of the Democrats on this Committee have attempted to discredit me by conjuring up a narrative that I am simply the Presidents factotum who disposes of criminal cases according to his instructions," Barr writes.
"Judging from the letter inviting me to this hearing, that appears to be your agenda today," he adds.
Barr's forceful approach is likely an early preview of what the hearing Tuesday morning will be: a contentious cage match between Democrats and the president's top cop.

I’m going to risk being seen as defending Barr, but I must admit that ...to my astonishment...there is still more information coming out about the whole conspiracy.
Just today, for the first time, I heard the Bookings Institute president was involved in the attempt.
If they are putting a case together, they must be beside themselves trying to get it all in a coherent piece.
Barr has been AG 440 days. In another 30 or so days the door slams shut on pre election indictments. I wish it was different but it is what it is.
I like his angle. He should keep reminding the Democrats that theyre interfering with the independence of the DOJ. Use their own words against them. Theyre shameless, but itll reveal them for the asinine hypocrites that they are.
Correct. The Dems are shameless and they couldn’t care less what Barr says. What they care about it what he does. And in the first 440 or so days he has been AG that would be nothing.
Criticism from Trump’s base? Who cares?
Criticism from nobody democrats with no power? I’m going to blast them with my bag pipes!!!!
Indictments Bob. Indictments. We’ve had quite enough of speeches. We need results. Not more posturing.
.....”different reasons”....
Impatience. The wheels of Justice grind slowly if you’re going to make something stick.
Is Bill going to break out the bagpipes at the hearing?
Exactly....Barr’s going after them all not just a few on the vine. When you’re weeding out the garden it does no good just pulling at leaves.
All this time and not one indictment. He has discredited himself, he should stop blaming dems and look in the mirror for the problem.
Barr is doing an excellent job.
Screw you bandwagon FReepers dissing him. I don’t want to see any posts from you folks praising him when justice gets metered out.
Impatience. The wheels of Justice grind slowly if youre going to make something stick.
Unfortunately, the Wheels of Justice will stop grinding in about 30 days to pause for the election. Barr has had 440 days as AG to engage the coupists and has not. That won’t be changing in the next 30 days. Sorry.
I like your metaphor!
Funny, Jeff Sessions seems like ancient history, and yet he was supposed to do what Barr is supposed to be doing. Feels like Lucy’s football.
Freepers are impatient creatures.....they want it now! Or at best when they think now should be. I tend to want to wait and see because things are never what they might appear to be especially pretaining D.C.
Wake me up too....

No, Freepers know when they’re being slow-rolled.
To be honest, its not about impatience, if it goes to a new administration, its all swept under the rug.
The Biden DoJ recharges Mike Flynn, too.
The IRS Lois Lerner case and those that go a long time - are closed on a quiet Friday afternoon.
Its naive to think long waits end with Indictments, because the opposite is true.
I am very patient and when I see more and more evidence emerging, it makes me willing to wait.
No, Freepers know when theyre being slow-rolled.
The handwriting is on the wall: Barr is going to blow his bagpipes, say crimes were committed but so sorry it’s too close to the election and we can’t indict. It’s so obvious even Stevie Wonder can see what’s coming.
Hell, the janitor of the organization hasn't been fingered yet, much less the ringleader.
