China warned that the worst of the deluges that have led millions to be evacuated may be yet to come, after a third wave of floods formed in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River on Sunday (July 26).
"The flood control and flood fighting situation is severe," China's water resources ministry said in a statement. "The new peak may appear later."
The authorities ordered the Three Gorges Reservoir to save its water-storing capacity in preparation for more flows, and forecast another three days of torrential rain in the southern region.
China's south has been battered by severe floods after water levels reached records. More than 2 million people have been evacuated this month along the Yangtze River, Asia's longest, with 142 dead or missing since the flooding began in June.
It has also caused over 116 billion yuan (S$23 billion) in damage, and impacted more than 2.4 million ha of crops in July.
The Three Gorges Reservoir is expecting water inflows to surge to about 60,000 cubic m per second by about Tuesday.
The reservoir level was at 159.46m as of Monday, down from 164.18m about a week ago. Its maximum level is 175m.

You have to understand that the leadership chosen by a people is a genetic characteristic of those people. The Chinese are a naturally cooperative and obedient people, they chose communism. In contrast, take the Highlander Scots, and all the second sons of the English Nobility, most of whom migrated to America — it was no coincidence that the Scottish Enlightenment founded the Constitution.
Inviting people who are not naturally individualist to immigrate to the USA has diluted our genetic inclination to chose a well leashed form of government. Socialism and communism are here.

Sure one can argue they’re not the most evil, though I’d say their record is pretty hard to top:
- Causing tens of millions of people to die an unnatural death (not including deaths from natural and manmade-natural disasters);
- Large-scale harvesting of vital organs from healthy, innocent victims solely for profit;
- Pervasive one-child policy resulting in forced abortions regardless of how far the pregnancy is (now abandoned);
- Spreading corrupting everywhere they go;
- Releasing a deadly virus all over the world;
… just off the top of my head.

A few days back, another poster (who sounded knowledgeable) also recounted an opinion from professionals, that the Three Gorges Dam won’t just burst wide open, even if the water flows over the top, because of its inherent design.
The big disaster would likely be if the water overwhelms its capacity, and keeps coming.
Perhaps there are some construction defects, where the dam is not built to design however, so there might be a surprise.
It looks like the Dam will be tested again this week by the heavy rains, that water volume will likely break other things, if not Three Gorges.
The official death toll of 142 is as reliable as their CCP Virus deaths. The purposely flooded rural regions to save their big cities, in the middle of the night to avoid compensation, protest, and publicity.
This is not the 3 Gorges Dam. The name of it is China Dam.
Common tactic, worldwide. See "Birds Point Levee, Missouri". (I was under 20 miles away, straight line distance, at the time.) Blowing that levee took pressure off the entire system, including the big TVA lakes (Barkley, KY Lake) which were full to the gills, so to speak.

If the dam breaks, the flood would take out not only a lot of farmland, but also a huge chunk of China’s manufacturing and shipping capability.
I’ve seen mention that more than half of China’s pharmaceutical manufacturers are located in the area threatened by this flood. Can anyone confirm that for me?
One could make a strong case for Pol Pot in Cambodia too. In the case of China it’s a numbers game and the Chicoms just had more people to work with than anyone else. If one can imagine a world ruler/dictator he or she would have 7 billion of us to do evil upon.
I’m having trouble getting a feel for the terrain surrounding the dam. What are the chances of a Lake-Delton-style breach?
I can”t confirm definitively, but I have seen articles making the same point - that a lot of the global pharmaceutical/biomedical (like PPE)supply chain, lies in the path of a potential Three Gorges catastrophe - notably Wuhan, the source of most of the pre-cursor chemicals used to produce the illegal fentanyl supply in the USA, among many other products.
