I spoke to highly respected (Chairman) Senator @JimInhofe, who has informed me that he WILL NOT be changing the names of our great Military Bases and Forts, places from which we won two World Wars (and more!). Like me, Jim is not a believer in “Cancel Culture”.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 24, 2020

At least he found one ally in the Senate.

Hard to do as most of them are Bush League Republicans.

The Senate was throwing American history onto the Antifa bonfire, and now Inhofe is backing off. Great news!

As bad as things look now I don’t see what these RINOs caving to the leftist demands think this is going to buy them.

Whose votes are they trying to keep by giving in to terrorists demands?

If they give in and in and in and they still lose in November then what?

They still won’t admit that they were wrong.

It would be funny if they renamed Fort Lee as Fort Lee, for Light Horse Harry Lee.

Those stupid Republicans who voted with the Democrats on this will, in 10 years or less, see the left coming to destroy their history too.

So that will be Trump’s excuse for not vetoing the bill like he said he would?

both US Senators from Georgia voted Yes and in a quirk, both are running in November. And both lost my vote. I will vote for Doug Collins in Loeffler’s race and skip Perdue’s race. Both are in very tight races and they can sink or swim without me.

Here is a link to the original Senate bill, which was sponsored by Sen. Inhofe:

https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/4049

It is Inhofe’s bill. He messed up big time.

A civil war is a really ugly thing.

Lots of maiming and blood and death.

Neighbor against neighbor.

Brother against brother.

The combat went on for a few years.

The fighting goes on to this very day on Free Republic.

I think it was kind of a risky move to put US military facilities in the former Confederate States.

Like I wrote, lots of blood and death in that war.

I haven’t looked into the detailed history of naming those military facilities, but I think they named them after Southern leaders as a show of goodwill.

The last thing the military needed was Southern citizens protesting and sabotaging military facilities.

Leave them named as they are.

Not as a salute to Southern leaders, but as a salute to goodwill.

A salute to the victors who said, “Enough is enough. It is time to heal this country and show a little strength. The strength to show we have no hatred towards our fellow Americans.”
