The mayor of Portland and the governor of Oregon might not like it, but President Trump has a winning issue with his federal law enforcement deployments.
The simple truth, one that Democratic politicians such as Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot need to grasp quickly, is that most people don't want to get shot dead. Their ignorance of that reality, willful or otherwise, reflects a quite stunning failure of political leadership.
The facts are clear. The chaos in Portland is a direct consequence of Mayor Ted Wheeler's appeasement of roving criminals. But rather than confront the destruction of private property and attacks on police officers and city residents, Wheeler is playing to the idiotic Twitter meme that the federal law enforcement officers are actually the Gestapo. In Chicago, Lightfoot is playing the same game.
Emboldened by the understandable reluctance of police officers to confront criminals, understandable in that Democratic mayors and prosecutors are out for badges, gangs are taking advantage of a security vacuum. Like the culprits, the victims are predominantly young black men. We are told that black lives matter, but only, it seems, when those lives are ended by police officers.
Trump has a winning issue....where the metal meets the meat, people want the police to protect them. It may not look nice and often isn't, but the deployment of federal law enforcement officers accomplishes two things. It shows that the federal government takes its duty of public security seriously, and it draws a striking contrast with politicians who would take the very opposite approach, defunding those who are needed to keep us safe.

No offense, but that’s a silly argument to make. I’d say 95% of the Federal code of criminal conduct should be eliminated, but the protection of Federal property would certainly be covered under the 5% that remains. Heck — Federal troops were used to enforce Federal laws as far back as the 1790s, even though the U.S. Justice Department didn’t exist until 1870.

I question the constitutionality of the Insurrection Act of 1807. Although I think the feds have a right to step in upon an actual act of secession by a state, I think a state and the people of the state should be responsible to quell their own uprisings. The only constitutional justification for the feds to move in would be if the very government of the state itself was threatened. Article IV, Section 4 mandates the feds guarantee every state a republican form of government. I don't see that here - yet.
Even this questionable act requires that before invoking the powers under the Act, the President must first publish a proclamation ordering the insurgents to disperse. I'm not sure I've seen that publication.

That is another story. In the same section cited above, the Constitution mandates the federal government protect each state from invasion (Art IV, Sec 4). Illegal immigration and immigration of our enemies is invasion. Trump is within his legal rights to build this wall especially when the Legislative and/or Judicial Branch opposes it. Here, Trump is on solid ground.
The rest of your comment is mostly about Trump's good intentions but the road to ruin is paved with the federal government's temporary good but unconstitutional intentions that turn malevolent very quickly.
Again, Trump doesn't get that the Constitution did not create the USA to be run by the government. The Constitution created the USA to be run by the people. The Constitution created an expressly limited government to protect the people's freedom to run their lives which is what runs a free country.
Even upon the writing and signing of the Constitution, Ben Franklin expressed grave doubts that may have been in the hearts of many about the ability of the people to maintain their freedom and their republic. In the famous story you probably heard, as Franklin walked out at the end of the closed session that gave us this remarkable document and nation, a woman asked, "Well what have you given us?" Franklin replied, "A republic if you can keep it."
Your personal opinions and moral code or mine is not the issue here. The issue here is the Constitution as written and originally understood and intended - the Supreme Law of the Land which expressly limits the power of the feds and ensures individual freedom of the American People.

Well, government should have nothing to do with schools. Police (including the courts and prisons) and the military are the 2 only legitimate activities of government.
