Why Trump is winning the national policing argument.....
washingtonexaminer ^ | 7/22/2020 | Tom Rogan

The mayor of Portland and the governor of Oregon might not like it, but President Trump has a winning issue with his federal law enforcement deployments.

The simple truth, one that Democratic politicians such as Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot need to grasp quickly, is that most people don't want to get shot dead. Their ignorance of that reality, willful or otherwise, reflects a quite stunning failure of political leadership.

The facts are clear. The chaos in Portland is a direct consequence of Mayor Ted Wheeler's appeasement of roving criminals. But rather than confront the destruction of private property and attacks on police officers and city residents, Wheeler is playing to the idiotic Twitter meme that the federal law enforcement officers are actually the Gestapo. In Chicago, Lightfoot is playing the same game.

Emboldened by the understandable reluctance of police officers to confront criminals, understandable in that Democratic mayors and prosecutors are out for badges, gangs are taking advantage of a security vacuum. Like the culprits, the victims are predominantly young black men. We are told that black lives matter, but only, it seems, when those lives are ended by police officers.

Trump has a winning issue....where the metal meets the meat, people want the police to protect them. It may not look nice and often isn't, but the deployment of federal law enforcement officers accomplishes two things. It shows that the federal government takes its duty of public security seriously, and it draws a striking contrast with politicians who would take the very opposite approach, defunding those who are needed to keep us safe.

The only legit purpose of government is protection - from criminals at home and invaders from afar. When it fails at this, there is no reason for its existence.

Well, except for midnight basketball. I mean, that is an essential service, right?

“people don’t want to get shot dead. Their ignorance of that reality, willful or otherwise, reflects a quite stunning failure of political leadership.”

I disagree they are ignorant. I believe they don’t care who gets dead as long as its not them or their families. They are complicit and sit on their hands willingly...and do so at their own peril.

Just my 2 cent

Just watched Trump in tv. He asked Wrey to come up and say a few words and Wrey didn’t want to come up. Trump had to ask him again with a pretty please. Trump should fire that swamp dwelling slime ball. He’s one of the Never Trumpers. Needs to go yesterday....

Then he walked up like Comey walked across the room and said something for 3 seconds, bad bad body language. Trump is forcing him to do his job.

No he is not. This is the wrong solution to the problem. Like the Patriot Act under Bush. We do not require a national police force. Ever.

I would rather see the cities burn to the ground and plow the earth with salt.

President Trump sees this. He reads people very well.

I suspect there are plans afoot for Mr. Wray.

President Trump is working hard to get the cooperation of the Governors and Mayors.

I do not think he will go out of bounds.

But, federal officers have always, since the Constitution was ratified, well before the War Between the States (Civil War), had the authority to arrest people for federal crimes.

The feds simply do not have constitutional police power. If it’s not in the Constitution as an enumerated power, it simply is not a federal power delegated by the Constitution. And the Constitution is the ONLY legitimate source of federal power (it is the “Supreme Law of the Land” Art. 6, Cl 2).

Unfortunately because of the American People allowing these kinds of illegal federal power grabs, the feds have basically become a totalitarian power.

Unwittingly, Trump, partly because I think he has lousy advisors, is expanding unconstitutional power for a federal government that is already way off its constitutional rails.

If Patriots don’t get this, then the end is definitely in sight. If the good guys expand unconstitutional federal power, than all you need is one bad guy to basically sink America and her freedoms as we know it.

What is (political) freedom anyway?

It is the ABSENCE of government coercion.

More government - less freedom. More laws less freedom. You can’t have a great deal of both. One of them has to give. What has made America exceptional lo these many years is government has always taken the back seat to individual freedom. But America is losing her grip on freedom as government continues to unconstitutionally encroach and infringe in our lives.

Somewhere, somehow , some way, Patriots must rally around the idea that our job is to DISMANTLE the unconstitutional portion of the feds and restore our Free Constitutional Republic.

“Well, what about Portland and Chicago, etc.?”

Those are constitutionally sovereign states’ and local issues that must be handled by the free people of that state and locality.

In the speech, It sounded like these are not LEOs who are going to be on the street. These Feds are people who are helping to investigate and thereby get the criminals off the streets. In Kansas City, there have already been 200 arrests. Hoping that these are for Federal crimes, the bad guys might get a strong message.

Wray is of the same mind as the Pentagon generals. They now beleive they are independent and the President isn’t at the top of the chain of command. They are carving out their fiefdoms and will do as they please.
