Why Trump is winning the national policing argument.....
washingtonexaminer ^ | 7/22/2020 | Tom Rogan

The mayor of Portland and the governor of Oregon might not like it, but President Trump has a winning issue with his federal law enforcement deployments.

The simple truth, one that Democratic politicians such as Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot need to grasp quickly, is that most people don't want to get shot dead. Their ignorance of that reality, willful or otherwise, reflects a quite stunning failure of political leadership.

The facts are clear. The chaos in Portland is a direct consequence of Mayor Ted Wheeler's appeasement of roving criminals. But rather than confront the destruction of private property and attacks on police officers and city residents, Wheeler is playing to the idiotic Twitter meme that the federal law enforcement officers are actually the Gestapo. In Chicago, Lightfoot is playing the same game.

Emboldened by the understandable reluctance of police officers to confront criminals, understandable in that Democratic mayors and prosecutors are out for badges, gangs are taking advantage of a security vacuum. Like the culprits, the victims are predominantly young black men. We are told that black lives matter, but only, it seems, when those lives are ended by police officers.

Trump has a winning issue....where the metal meets the meat, people want the police to protect them. It may not look nice and often isn't, but the deployment of federal law enforcement officers accomplishes two things. It shows that the federal government takes its duty of public security seriously, and it draws a striking contrast with politicians who would take the very opposite approach, defunding those who are needed to keep us safe.

I have no objection to federal marshals protecting federal property, especially when the local boys are not enforcing the law at the direction of the evil ones.

My vehement objection rises when someone says we need a national police force to replace the local ones.

We already have the FBI acting as the NKVD.

Every single action on the part of the media, the mayors, the NLG, the BLM/Antifa actors, and the FBI has been to demoralize the local police. It is a concerted effort, along with the “defund” movement to get them to quit and have violence in the street (probably trying to provoke a civil war).

The public reaction will be ... its not working, what are we going to do? And the answers proposed will either be the Antifa police from CHAD, a national police force, or a 1917 revolution. Be prepared.

Trump has beasts to slay. Wray is just getting in the way, dangerous to hang onto.

I think you have gone too far down the track. There does exist provision for the Federal Government to act.

Over 200 years, the Insurrection Act has been used dozens of times, according to a Congressional Research Service report published in January.in 1871, President Ulysses S. Grant expanded the Insurrection Act so that he could suppress uprisings against “any part of or class … of people” who are “deprived of a right, privilege, immunity, or protection named in the Constitution.”

Grant’s target was the violent Ku Klux Klan, which was, according to the Coakley book, inciting “its members to commit crimes, including murder, against Republicans and blacks” and rarely facing prosecution.

Once the law passed in the spring of 1871, Grant was quick to act. On May 3 of that year, he issued a required order for the scofflaws to cease violating anyone’s constitutional rights. Then, after learning that the KKK was still thriving in several South Carolina counties, he organized more than 1,000 soldiers to round up several hundred Klansmen. “Scores” of suspects were arrested, many of them interrogated for several weeks without an indictment. By Jan. 1, 1872, the Army had detained more than 600 men, and most of them were tried and convicted in federal court.

Over the next several decades, the law would be used many more times by other presidents. In 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhower wielded the Insurrection Act during the desegregation of Central High School in Little Rock. Nine black students who enrolled at the all-white school were testing out the 1954 Supreme Court ruling in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, which concluded that segregated public schools were unconstitutional. On Sept. 25, Eisenhower sent federal troops to escort the students into the school safely, after they’d been barred earlier that month by National Guardsmen called in by the state’s governor.

But, federal officers have always, since the Constitution was ratified, well before the War Between the States (Civil War), had the authority to arrest people for federal crimes.
*******************************************************************************
Yes, ensuring domestic tranquility(the opposite of domestic violence) and guaranteeing a republican form of government is part of the constitutional duty of the Federal Government.

And President George Washington proved that in taking care of the Whiskey rebellion. The tax laws and enforcement acts after that were even well established before the civil war.

While there are many times that the Federal Government oversteps the boundaries intended by the constitution, Federal Marshalls/Agents taking care of perps committing Federal crimes is not one of them.

.....”If the good guys expand unconstitutional federal power, than all you need is one bad guy to basically sink America and her freedoms as we know it”......

The left is basically already ignoring what constitutional powers are designated. They walk right on by knowing full well they can for a “time”......to stall, resist, oppose or whatever. For them it’s not about the constitution it’s about what they can get away with.

The old saying...”all is fair in love and war” is true....and they are at war with this administration and the voters who support him.

No he is not. This is the wrong solution to the problem. Like the Patriot Act under Bush. We do not require a national police force. Ever.

I would rather see the cities burn to the ground and plow the earth with salt.

Dozens of Federal crimes are being committed here. Convicted felons are being found in possession of firearms almost daily and Foxx refuses to prosecute the State crime. So let the Feds do it.

There’s also a substantial amount of Federal property being damaged or destroyed and it’s clearly Constitutional for Federal charges to be laid against the perpetrators.

No one is talking about DHS arresting for or prosecuting State crimes.

You have to recognize who is behind these protests. It is not a spontaneous, unorganized tantrum of idiots.

These are planned, trained, funded, and orchestrated. They are trying to get the police to either shoot them or quit, and trying to destroy the economy so Trump does not get re-elected. They want the image of the boogeymen riot police, like Kent State, that they can blast over the world.

They are supported by the media, the Democratic party and the mechanism of the federal government.

It hasn’t been our government for many years.

When asked “under what authority does the President send federal law enforcement into American cities” I still think the answer should be “by the same authority that other Presidents sent agents to protect civil rights in the South between 1947 and 1971”.

Stir the pot just a little more. Throw it back in their faces.

Jim Crow style Democrats never liked federal agents.

I opposed the Patriot Act from day one. But this is different and nobody is talking about a national police force. Though we already do have what you could describe as many national police forces - DHS, DEA, FBI, Marshall Services and more.

FBI and DEA have more resources to attack this problem head on, and to conduct more comprehensive surveillance and investigation. I don’t envision that the Chicago Police have any inclination (or much ability) to run wire taps and pay for informants to built RICO cases against the criminally violent gangs - in the same way the feds targeted the American Mafia and even Al Capone required the intervention of the Feds. The CPD could and should, but someone here posted that the clearance rate for murder cases is 10% in Chicago. That’s preposterously low, practically incompetent. Chicago city politics is what it is, not much we can do about that. But we can save innocent lives. It is worth it.

Mothers want safety and security. It’s genetic.
Mothers want a strong man to ensure safety and security. It’s genetic.

IMO, the current rioting, anarchy and destruction situation is bothering mothers across America greatly, and Trump is the strong man to end it.

The women in the riots, otoh, are likely very few mothers. They’re ‘lost girls’ — the lonely and bitter end products of proggie/feminist indoctrination.

- The Insurrection Act
As far as I know, Trump is not citing the Insurrection Act. Just federal police power. “I’m trying to help.” But that’s no good. Tyranny (unconstitutional federal acts) that’s “friendly” quickly becomes tyranny that destroys.

-Segregated public schools
Segregated public schools are unconstitutional because the 14th amendment forbids states from segregating ex-slaves form other citizens, so the use of the feds to enforce it is perfectly valid.

But in the meantime, of course, the 1964 Civil Rights Act took the feds further off of the constitutional rails than FDR did previously.

So what? Does anyone care if it’s constitutional? If they understood what’s at stake, they would.

There are countless tyrants just drooling for the chance to use Trump’s “good intentions” and use the precedent to crush us as just as Khrushchev said they would.

“Those are constitutionally sovereign states’ and local issues that must be handled by the free people of that state and locality.”

That’s interesting. Do you plan to personally organize those “free people” to attack and remove the commies in Portland and Seattle? Or will you donate $100 million to muster an armed punitive expeditionary force to rid the area of commies?

I am sympathetic with your position.

But, the FBI/DOJ is more interested in NASCAR nooses than Antifa. They could have declared them a terrorist organization and arrested the leadership, including their funding sources and media co-conspirators. They won’t, because they ARE co-conspirators.

We should recognize where the problem lies, in order to save more lives in the long run.

The left is basically already ignoring what constitutional powers are designated.

Been doing it since around 1900. They've gotten as far as they have because basically no one has stopped them. The miracle is really that America is still recognizable.

But if Patriots don't decide to do whatever it takes to restore our Free Constitutional Republic, America as we know it will disappear quickly and soon. I pray it will not.
