The Atlantic is filled with mud, sewage and old fish.
It’s also the name of an ocean.
They got their attack story out, now they want to fly the correction under the radar until it all blows over.
So, she just wants anarchy? Rule by whoever is bigger, stronger, better armed?
The idea that without enforced authority, society just "gets along" only works in a society with strong moral values. Even then, we have found police to be worthwhile to do the specialized tasks of investigating crimes, arresting people, and backing up legitimate private force.

I remember that the guard was angry that his cousin skipped a sign-in sheet at my neighborhood recreation center; the victim told police it had started as an argument over “something stupid.” I was teaching my sister how to shoot free throws when the guard stormed in alongside the court, drew his weapon, and shot the boy in the arm. My sister and I hid in the locker room for hours afterward. The guard was back at work the following week.”

Being human, it’s likely I will remember events in my favor, and they will be different from the memories of others at same event. However, if I choose to alter basic facts of the event to fit my preference and do it consciously- I am a liar. The original author of this Atlantic piece- is a liar.
