MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) – With the rising number of coronavirus cases across Alabama every day, Gov. Kay Ivey has put into effect a statewide face mask requirement.
During a press conference Wednesday, Ivey said that between June 29 and July 13, the total number of COVID-19 cases statewide rose by 50% and that in the first nine days of July, the state averaged 1,000 new cases per day.
As of Wednesday, there have been 58,225 COVID-19 cases reported across Alabama since late March.
“Despite our best efforts, we are seeing increased cases every day are still occurring and we’re almost to the point where our hospital ICUs are overwhelmed,” Ivey said.
As part of the order, which will run from 5 p.m. Thursday to 5 p.m. July 31, Alabamians will be required to wear a mask or other facial covering when in public and in close contact with other people, as described in the order.

Well, the more you test, the more cases you’ll see. I betcha there was not the same level of testing last year for the FLU. If so, how do those numbers compare to Covid numbers?

About 24 states have mask mandates in some form are other.
I am sick of everyone being such a pusxy.
There has been a large increase in cases of “pink eye” since the mask mandates have been issued.
I theorize (likely correctly) that the bacteria being pushed out the top of the mask and going over the eyes is responsible for this.
The health negatives of masks far outweigh the largely unproven positives.
We will never win this battle with logic - despots and sheep ignore it. And it’s pretty clear the masses will continue their metamorphosis into herds of bleating sheep - so little hope of mass disobedience.
Are those ICU beds being overwhelmed because of the virus or because of treatments for other diseases being delayed for too long?
Not defending the order, but at least Alabama’s has an expiration date.
It will likely be extended, and extended....but for the moment there is an end in sight.
I live in Florida but my Dr. is in Alabama. He is considered brilliant but does not wear a mask.
I have an appointment in a few days. It will be interesting.
Numerous RCTs (Random Clincial Tests) from several different years show that masks, including N-95 respirators, have no significant effect on viral transmission.

Ha. My doctor is over in Georgia, has a private practice, doesn’t have online billing, and I’ve been trying to settle a co-pay since March. I can’t even get into the front door to take care of it, mask or not. I have another appointment coming up, and I’m just waiting for some billingsgate from the front desk slugs over it.
