The Los Angeles Teachers Union says its schools can’t open in the fall unless charter schools are closed and the police are defunded.
These are the Marxist loons teaching your kids.
Oh, and they want more money.
83% of teachers voted to not reopen in the fall.
But they still expect to get paid.
Just the News reported:
United Teachers Los Angeles, a 35,000-strong union in the Los Angeles Unified School District, made those demands in a policy paper it released this week. The organization called on local authorities to “keep school campuses closed when the semester begins on Aug. 18.”
The union outlined numerous major provisions it says will be necessary to reopen schools again, including sequestering students in small groups throughout the school day, providing students with masks and other forms of protective equipment, and re-designing school layouts in order to facilitate “social distancing.”
Yet the union goes even farther than those requests, calling for “local support” in the form of defunded police departments and the shuttering of charter schools.
Police violence “is a leading cause of death and trauma for Black people, and is a serious public health and moral issue,” the union writes.

Dont fire them. Announce youve accepted their resignations and their unilateral cancellation of their prior contract.
The real problem with all these calls for firing or renegotiation calls is that everyone here doesnt seem to understand that those with the power to fire or renegotiate have no interest in doing so...they ALL agree wholeheartedly with the radical teachers...all the way up to the governor. In that very real sense the teachers unions make damned sure that they are negotiating with themselves, not with any counterpart that has a different agenda than their own. They do this by being the major money and work machine for the far left politicians in California, and nationally. And as only a smallIsh minority in California does not subscribe to their far left politics, there is no way to change that. Its an entirely rigged leftist system, and that appears to be the way California wants it.

Depending how parents react this could be the final straw that breaks the giant camels back of the teachers unions

Parents that send their children to government schools should be charged with child abuse... Look what their children have done. And the parents walk away... Not their problem.

Police violence is a leading cause of death and trauma for Black people, and is a serious public health and moral issue, the union writes. Probably well below the death toll of being shot in the street for you Nikes.

Close them down. We’ll be better off in the long run with private schools.

So, doesn’t all of this characterize public school teachers as ‘non-essential’?
To: Enlightened1
I predict that in areas in which schools remain closed, testing results and academic proficiency will increase.

That is what I have maintained from early on. It can be a serious medical issue for a subset of people, but it isn’t like the Bubonic Plague which had a mortality rate of 30-50%.
It is foolish to treat it as such. And we have been fools to let them do it.

An illegal work stoppage should void their contract.
If that’s not written into CA contracts, taxpayers out there need their heads examined.
