The University of Southern Californias School of Cinematic Arts announced Friday that it will remove its exhibit of Hollywood legend John Wayne, citing an initiative to promote anti-racist cultural values following protests from students.
Conversations about systemic racism in our cultural institutions along with the recent global, civil uprising by the Black Lives Matter Movement require that we consider the role our school can play as a change maker in promoting antiracist cultural values and experiences, Evan Hughes, the assistant dean of diversity and inclusion, said in a statement. Therefore, it has been decided that the Wayne Exhibit will be removed.
Students demanded the removal of the Wayne exhibit over remarks he made during a 1971 Playboy magazine interview.

F em. Move it to a place where patriots appreciate them.
I bet they would not have to look hard to cancel ones like Danny Kaye and other liberal Democrats of the time concerning remarks they made about blacks or gays and some of it would make Wayne’s 1971 remarks look very benign and tame by comparison.
They’re even coming for the Duke. Why? Because he was a proud American.
How long before they set thier sites on us?
Since they have no value for it, I’ll be glad to rent a truck and remove all John Wayne materials to help them on their recovery from systemic racism enabler and visceral feelings of their own vicarious slave holder liability.
It is probably already in motion on the removal of John Wayne movies....
I love Danny Kaye! Theres a busy Facebook and Instagram page about his history. I dont care about his work for UNICEF, admire his strong work for the troops In Korea, etc., and his visiting troops for Israel during their 1967 war.
But Im not a leftist who would cancel someone they dont agree with 100%.
John Wayne becomes an unperson. If the Democrats wee in charge of the country right now it would become a crime against the people to mention his name or be caught with John Wayne memorabilia.
Interesting since Kaye was floridly gay (he also liked dames).
One of USC’s greatest presidents was Rufus von KleinSmid who transformed the university into a world-class institution of higher learning. In 1966 the Von KleinSmid Center, which houses the schools of political science, public administration and international relations (and where I got my first master’s degree, in IR). was established in his honor. However under the leadership of USC’s new “woke” president Carol Folt, Von KleinSmidt’s name has been taken off the center and his statue has been removed because he wrote some articles favoring eugenics back in the 1920’s.
But don’t expect the SJW’s to be satisfied. Traveler, the famous horse who gallops around the Coliseum when the Trojans score a touchdown is under attack because he shares the name of General Robert E. Lee’s horse, and because he is white. And atop Bovard Tower are statues of racists that include the Reverend John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Marcus Cicero.
Over time they will do everything to erase all that is good about America.
I despise these people so much.
Personally, John Wayne was a great defender of the Native Americans, and did much to support them. Many of his movies show support for these people, one scene I remember from McClintock, Wayne tells his daughter that his entire ranch is going back to the Indians upon his death.
Agreed, as I also like Danny Kaye very much myself and did not wish to disparage him in that exclusive manner. I had thought of a story I read here (IIRC) from someone who went on some sort of trip or junket with Kaye (as he was both a skilled pilot and chef). During this trip or junket, there were a few parties in which everyone including Kaye had a fair bit to drink and apparently that’s when he and a few others made some not particularly flattering remarks about blacks and gays that would certainly not amuse “woke” persons of today.
En vino veritas.
The Duke himself may have gotten upset that a casual remark he made (the sort of thing that certainly would have been edited out of an interview in magazines throughout the 30’s-60’s) got into print. Most of us would never have have heard about it anyway. After all, men didn’t buy Playboy for the interviews. It’s a single blasted interview, yet we’ve got deem John Wayne “inappropriate” over it.
Likewise for the call of the complete removal of Kate Bush singing “God bless America” in sporting stadiums because she recorded another single obscure song, now deemed “offensive”.
I’m counter-offended when they start “cancelling” people that have passed away over what’s essentially trivial crud that SJWs had to dig up and research to find “anything” offensive.
The Duke starred in 142 Movies. A career that spanned five decades and dominated the ‘Western Genre’ of motion pictures. So it makes sense that a School of Cinematic Arts would expunge this great actor, who attended their University, and gave them tons of support and memorabilia.
NOT
All “diversity” officials at all institutions and organizations are the new extremely well indoctrinated political police, and thought police, like the SS in Hitler’s Germany. The insertion of these type of individuals everywhere began at least a decade ago, but even then the roles they are now being given was preplanned by the Marxist academics that initiated the development of these positions.

Now that’s an oxymoron.
