Longtime conservative political operative, civics connoisseur, and radio personality Jay Severin has passed away after battling cancer. He was 69.

Severin became a giant force in political talk in New England before spending years as a host on TheBlaze Radio Network's national platform.
"Jay was one of the rare talents that could not only see beyond the headline, but had the empathy to understand how it affected the listener," Glenn Beck told TheBlaze. "He was a good man, and I'm a better one for having known him."
Tom Shattuck, podcaster and senior editor of the Lowell Sun, paid tribute to Severin after news broke of his death on Thursday, calling him "the Boston talk titan."
"This was a guy who liked free speech and was not afraid to push the boundaries," Shattuck said of Severin, adding, "He made a difference...he was powerful, he was loud, he was poetic in the way he spoke, and he's going to be missed."
To all in the Boston metro area who listened to Jay on 96 Talk Radio about ten years back.
Jay passed away after from a stroke after battling cancer.
Rest in Piece.
Rest in Peace.
RIP
Used to listen to him a lot.
For some cancer comes out of nowhere. You get to a certain age and think about it a lot more than you once did. When and how will it get you if it does?
The rapture comes for someone every minute of every day. The time to prepare is now and every day.
He was really excellent for quite a while. Then something changed. Maybe he got threatened to be pulled or cancelled one too many times? And he toned down a lot.
Then, IIRC, he got suspended a few times. And then finally cancelled.
But, near the end of his tenure. he started to say some random things that I kind of started to wonder if it was all an act? And not really his true beliefs he was espousing? but merely playing “shock jock” to eager listeners.
Yup. He was must listen radio back then. Kinda full of himself but that was his shtick. RIP!
Indeed. Every day is a gift.
he was on the same AM station as Howie Carr and Jim Braude/Mahhhgery Eagan (WRKO).
Memory Eternal!!!!
I am posting the following from the Go Fund Me website:
Jay was being treated for three aggressive and malignant cancers this past year. After undergoing grueling radiation and chemo treatments for nine months, he was declared cancer free just three weeks ago. Sadly, he died of a sudden and massive stroke on July 7th.
Renee(wife) and Jane(daughter) Severin
This GoFundMe Campaign is not for Jay; however it is for his heartbroken widow and daughter. After Jay left the airwaves six years ago, he became ill and had been unable to work since. His illness and subsequent care has left the family without any resources - they lost their home to foreclosure, and have no assets, nor insurance or retirement. The family was living on Jay’s social security, which with his death they no longer receive. The goal of this fund is to help ease the burden of his medical bills, assist Jane and Renee pay for housing, and to help with burial expenses.
Jay had a HUGE following of people who appreciated his honest candor and his ability to bring another perspective to modern politics.
please consider supporting Jay’s widow and daughter, Renee and Jane, as they navigate the coming months and years without a husband and father.
With Gratitude and Love,
Friends of the Severns
So a widow does not get monthly benefits, even if husband had worked for years until he had to quit?
Praying that Renee and Jane both find good paying jobs. (Being dependent on someone else’s Social Security income is never a good thing.)
Maybe Glenn Beck can help their GoFundMe fund.
Prayers up.
I think his pinnacle of success was his contract with WTKK in Boston. Once he lost that deal it was down hill from there. I think Jay had the top drive time afternoon show in the Boston market at one point. Comparable to Felger & Mazz on The Sports Hub today.
Obviously, the whole talk format of WTKK eventually changed. They had a great format for awhile. Don Imus in the morning. Michael Graham in the early afternoon. The Jay Severin in the afternoon drive time slot. The only crummy part was Jim & Margery in the late morning.
I do not know how SS works.
I am just reposting what was written on the GoFundMe site.
I made a donation.
I have absolutely NO relation to him. However, listening to his show was part of my daily routine for years.
He was not politically correct. He said things on the radio that eventually got himself fired. That was because he said the truth about politicians.
Therefore, I will do what I can to support his relatives after his passing.

I dont think the Radio biz is known for high salaries and benefits...only for a few who really make it big
He came up with the phrase “crimalien.
Also, Howie Carr was going to jump from WRKO to WTTK
back when Severin was there, but there was a big contractual dispute between Carr and WRKO, so it never happened.
