How many cops are going to get ripped a new one by their spouses because they procrastinated in filing for retirement?
Damn id hate to be the guy that waited a day to long. Crap. Stuck for another year or whenever the ban is lifted.
Now the Liberal SOB’s will force you to work so they can arrest you. Cops are now slaves in NYC!
It’s the Hotel California.
Can they really stop people from retiring?
Cop disability claims are about to skyrocket—you heard it here first....
” Cops are now slaves in NYC!”
Clearly. They can’t just quit?!

If they can’t retire right now, some may ‘decide to get sick’. You almost can’t blame them. They don’t get much support from the Mayor or the Union.
A big fat F.U. to the city govt.
> Sources said that the deluge of applications had overwhelmed the department due to cancellation of overtime for the workers who process them and that the number of daily applicants was being limited as a result. <
Thats ridiculous. A person should be able to retire whenever he wants to. Its the job of management to get the paperwork done in a timely fashion. Hire temps or whatever, but get the paperwork done. The police union should file a lawsuit over this, like right now.
> Can they really stop people from retiring? <
Evidently they can, just be refusing to process the paperwork. The city is claiming that there are not enough clerks.
So if a cop tries to retire without the necessary paperwork, hell get no pension and no post-retirement health care...until the paperwork catches up with him.
Thats the way I see it.
Lets see how this squares with their union, help m stop them to continue receiving dues.
Thats fine, I would sit in a squad car and do absolutely nothing until the paperwork is done.
Exactly. Probably a breech of contract of employee rights. Forced servitude kind of against the Constitution.
If someone has the time, how the hell do you force them to stay and refuse retirement?
You just call in sick and run out the clock
The billion dollars they are taking from the police will be needed to pay all these pensions.
The system is poorly designed because in addition to the officers leaving because of the way they are being treated, the city has created a financial incentive basing pensions on salary plus overtime. So nearing retirement suddenly officers rack up as much OT as possible (in this case the riots did that for them). Now the get out and get a higher pension than they otherwise would have been eligible for and the taxpayers have a lifetime obligation.
