Why Progressives Wage War on History

Erasing all memory of our founding principles would pave the way for a socialist future.

Princeton University’s decision to remove the name “Woodrow Wilson” from its School of Public and International Affairs is a big win for progressive activists, and the implications will extend far beyond the campus.

It hardly surprises me, in today’s polarizing environment, that my alma mater caved to pressure from radical progressives. What is surprising, however, is that the school caved now, after resolutely standing against the pressure for so many years.

Five years ago, as part of a broader nationwide effort to rewrite American history, Princeton students mounted a campaign to remove President Woodrow Wilson’s name from the school because of his racist views and his efforts to prevent the enrollment of black students. In response, the Board of Trustees formed a committee to review the matter. The following year, the board released a report detailing how to handle President Wilson’s legacy.

The Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and Woodrow Wilson College should retain their current names and . . . the University needs to be honest and forthcoming about its history. This requires transparency in recognizing Wilson’s failings and shortcomings as well as the visions and achievements that led to the naming of the school and the college in the first place.

Woodrow Wilson was a progressive so the swine and eat their own as far as I’m concerned; also a virulent racist and a fool who got us into a war we had no business being in. Arguably the President who did the most damage to the nation ever- implementing segregation so deeply that it took 60 years to start to get rid of, tying us into interminable European wars, and giving us an income tax.
Dig up his corpse and I’ll piss on it even if it means standing next to someone in Antifa swag and a bunch of BLM people doing so at the same time.

Here is why they wage war on history: It is not only NOT useful to them, it actually HURTS them.

Leftists are never called to account for the disasters they engender by their actions.

The Great Society programs from the LBJ administration have scourged and destroyed the black family.

Rent Control and the damage it has done in many communities, always a Leftist favorite.

Banning of DDT and the millions of deaths worldwide that resulted.

Price controls (Yes, energy price controls were put in place by Nixon, but Carter kept them and steadfastly refused to disable them, gas went up to something like $1.85 a gallon. Reagan came into office, and one of his first actions was to remove price controls, and within four months, gasoline was 85 cents a gallon.

You could go on and on, from minimum wage laws, to socialism, to communism, to appeasement of tyrants and terrorists, to coddling of criminals, to overtaxing, to overspending, to environmental efforts to get rid of some invasive plant by bringing in an insect that turns into a bigger problem, to prohibition, to unemployment benefits in the COVID-19 environment that make people unwilling to work...

The point is (and Thomas Sowell covers this BRILLIANTLY in his outstanding book “The Vision of The Anointed”) they are never, EVER called to account for those failures (primarily, but not wholly of Leftism).

As he said in the book (I paraphrase) “People are often not heavily criticized for predicting the future poorly. But they are rarely, if ever made to account for actions taken in the face of historical failures of those same actions.” (My apologies to the good Dr. Sowell, I don’t have the exact quote)

But that is why real history is dangerous to them. They have to either manufacture it to be favorable, or get rid of it.

From its founding, our nation’s history is the story of individual freedom and personal responsibility, with limited government as a means for accomplishing both. Our Constitution simultaneously protects individual liberty and thwarts the progressive agenda. Progressives are constantly frustrated in their attempts to remake America into a socialist and godless society because of our Constitution. Is it any wonder that they devote so much of their energy to undermining, subverting, and circumventing the Constitution?
