Lt. Gov Spencer Cox has bested Jon Huntsman, the former Utah governor who was seeking a third term, in the primary race for Utah governor.
Huntsman didnt indicate what would come next for him but said that public service is in our blood
Cox will face Democrat Chris Peterson, a University of Utah law professor, in the contest for a seat Democrats havent won in 40 years.
Cox has served at nearly every level of local government, before winning election to the Utah House. He was still a freshman state representative in 2013, when Herbert plucked him from relative obscurity to serve as his second-in-command.
Huntsman who, [was] twice elected as governor, had served different administrations as U.S. ambassador to Russia, China and Singapore. The Huntsman name has been revered because of the chemical business, cancer foundation and numerous philanthropic efforts
Throughout the race, Cox has portrayed the matchup between him and Huntsman as the biblical David vs. Goliath fight,
Cox built his lead with Wasatch Front counties and the more rural jurisdictions that he catered to during his John Deere-themed campaign, Huntsman was more popular in the states urban population centers.
Cox visited all 248 cities and towns in the state . He also won the nomination at the state Republican Party Convention and was the first candidate to gather the 28,000 signatures needed to earn a spot on the primary election ballot.
He also had to fend off criticisms from his opponents, who have made an issue of his decision to leave the state to work in the Obama administration.
Cox has brought in 36% of the vote to Huntsmans 35%.
The disease also took a personal toll on Huntsman, who tested positive for COVID-19

OMG THANK GOD!! Very Happy to hear this!!!
Just say NO to Bush league Republicans.
Don’t know anything about Cox, but Huntsman was definitely a Bush League Republican.
The plastic finally melted on the clown. Good riddance.
Good.
Now get lost, loser!
This is how I know Huntsman is a rotten piece of work is years ago, a far-left relative of mine said he would be a great President.
Buh-bye Huntsman, you shithead.
I never did get it. Reelected to gov. The Kenyan appoints him to be the Chicom envoy then he quits to go for POTUS. Bites the hand that feeds him. Like he wouldn’t do it to the country?
I thought Huntsman was still our ambassador to Russia.
Mormons will be what they are... .
No story is complete without PICTURES - in this case, Huntsman’s daughters.
Romney clone goes down:)
Young anti-Trump RINO defeats old never-Trump RINO. Cox will take his marching orders from MILF.
For Utah, this is too good to be true.
Is there any chance it can be contested?
Utah, I hope this is the start of some voting sanity. Amazing news!
Huntsman had the money and the establishment. He even had a Polynesian woman as his running mate (the Poly community is huge in UT, in more ways than one). He had everything but traction. He still had a whiff of that Obama smell about him.
So will he now graciously concede his loss and leave, or will he try to be a spoiler and run as a 3rd-party candidate so the Dem can win?
In October 2015, Cox endorsed Marco Rubio for the Republican Party nomination in the 2016 presidential primary. After Rubio withdrew, Cox endorsed Ted Cruz in March 2016. Of Donald Trump, the front-runner, Cox said: "We care a lot about decorum. We care about our neighbors. We are a good, kind people. He does not represent neither goodness nor kindness." He said he would not support Trump if he wins the Republican nomination: "I think he's disingenuous. I think he's dangerous. I think he represents the worst of what our great country stands for.... I won't vote for Hillary, but I won't vote for Trump, either."
Nothing but Cheap Labor Express stooges, same as SC
