It is now being reported that the NFL will be playing Lift Evry Voice and Sing, a song that has been called the Black national anthem, before all NFL games in Week 1.
This is a high-risk, low-reward move by the NFL. There are countless problems with this strategy to appease the woke mobs, and it would be difficult to overstate just how foolish and dangerous it is.
First of all, a Black national anthem can only exist if there is a broad acceptance of the notion that black people, as a racial category, share a common identity with other sovereign nations. Additionally, defining a separate Black national anthem to be played alongside the Americas National Anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, presupposes that the latter is insufficient to alone represent black Americans as it represents all others.
These are insane propositions that would, until recently, have been unthinkable at any moment of my life. This is the same National Anthem was played in 1936 Olympic Games when Jesse Owens proudly accepted gold medals on behalf of his countrymen, of all races, in Berlin. His broad smiles and the American flag that fluttered over him vexed his Nazi hosts who insisted that race was fundamental to ones national identity. America, you see, represents something much nobler than that. It represents an immutable truth, rooted in the Judeo-Christian belief that we are all created in Gods image, and one that Martin Luther King, Jr. recognized as our national creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.

“...a Black national anthem can only exist if there is a broad acceptance of the notion that black people, as a racial category, share a common identity with other sovereign nations.”
I don’t know that international appeal has anything to do with a national anthem. But if a nation refuses to accept a national language because it won’t be decided that way, then that same nation can refuse to have a second national anthem when the first one was voted in in 1931.
36 U.S. Code 301:
(a)Designation. The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
Not white, not one of, not politically intended...”the.” There aren’t any others recognized. And to recognize and render any other song is in violation of the US Code. And its existence is not based upon speech, race, or religion. And any substandard copy is a true separation of the people in our society. And that is what the real anthem is about. And that is what another anthem is being used for.
rwood
There isn’t a white national anthem.... Why should there be a black one?
And if they are going to include a ‘black’ national anthem, then they will need to accept a ‘white’ national anthem and a Latin national anthem and an indigenous national anthem... Etc., etc.
Roger Goodell is a dolt!
TBD.
If the rest of us take a knee during that anthem, the media will go ballistic.
LOL
There’s only one national anthem, and only one that I’ll watch, and that’s The Star-Spangled Banner. Anything else gets turned off.
With limited stadium attendance imposed by the nanny state, the reduced viewership caused by politicization, will kill the league.
The concept of a black nation is as racist as racist can be.
Black ancestry includes thousands of tribes and dozens of nationalities.
Only a fanatical racist could try to make them a “nation”.
What a shame. I love pro football and really look forward to each new season. But all this crap, is the last straw. The dude will not abide. Im done with it.
NFL is dead. I will never watch another game. I am sooooo done.
I watched a post-COVID Premier League matchup a couple weeks ago. I don’t know if there are any streaming versions of the telecast, but jeeze did they go overboard on the whole BLM thing! In most of European (soccer) play the fans are brutal. Any angle will be used to get an opposing star player off his game... especially Race. So I can’t really decide if this was the Europeans acting their usual “Holier than Thou” or whether they were looking at this thru the lens of their own problems?
(And toodles to each and every one of your sponsors and your hate-America merch.)
We have excellent options to spend our time and hard-earned-money that do not insult our fine Country, our Flag and what it stands for, Veterans like me and so much of my Family, and American Citizens who love our Way of Life.
Once again... given the opportunity Black self-seggragate. It’s the college cafeteria thing writ large.
But a good chunk of the customers are white and would rather keep racial politics out of their face for a few precious hours.
Roger Goodell apparently endorses black separation proposed by Louis Farrakhan and Malcolm X.
Too bad. I believe most Americans believe in the United States of America.
Personally, if the blacks knelt for their own anthem before every game then stood for the American flag, I’d have no problem with it. Kneeling for the American flag is the offense.
Wish they were so principled when it comes to white tax dollars.
Rozelle or Tagliabue never would have allowed this crap.
The “black national anthem” is a religious hymn written by a pastor. I thought the left hated all things religious. I’m scratching my head.
Lift evry voice and sing,
Til earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listning skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on til victory is won.
Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,
Til now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,
May we forever stand,
True to our God,
True to our native land.
Ha, ha, how about Carry Me Back to Ol’ Wakanda
