I don’t think there is any way to evaluate HCQ efficacy by civilians. There are simply way too many moving parts in the calculus.

First; it is NEVER mentioned whether zinc was co-administered. Many HCQ “advocates” (for want of a better word) claim that the Zn is required. I have no opinion nor any way to know.

Second, I do not believe I have read ANY reports that HCQ with or without Zn is a CURE. It has always been reported AFAIK as a preventative, a prophylactic against CV-19.

Second (b) In some reports I believe I have read that HCQ is a palliative, a symptom-reducer. Again, I have no way to know.

Third, since Trump spoke favorably about HCQ we can never know how much Pavlovian anti-CV-19 is or was spontaneously generated thereby since the mode-o’day is to bash Trump by any means possible.

Fourth, there have been suggestions that there is huge financial interest in prescribing $3000-per-treatment Remdesovir (yes, that is the current proected price range and I speak regularly to a guy who works at GILD) versus 30 cents a dose HCQ. I have no way to know whether that is conspiracy theory but the 10,000:1 price differential is not a nothing.

An American politician is always on the lookout for an issue to jump in front of, a group they can lead and get free airtime on the news with (i.e. political advertising pretending to be news). And they are of course always on the side which makes them look good, even if it means they need to switch sides (Iraq war), go against their stated moral convictions (many openly Catholic Democrats on abortion)...

I’m waiting for an American politician to draft up a law against sun spots, solar flares, or magnetic polar drift. How about death. Can they pass a law against that? Or will an idiotic and ineffective mask save my life?

I wish they would all shut up, or at least choose their issues wisely. Sadly, the problem is largely the result of an ignorant public that cares about pop-culture trash while ignoring the real issues out there. So a Ted Cruz (whom I did not support in 2016 but has impressed me of late) gets practically no airtime while pushing for legislation regarding rare earth resources, which has a strategic impact on our nation. In the meantime every idiot governor doing “something” usually stupid just to show they did something passes rules for mandatory masks get the camera’s. This nonsense got him a Billion dollars plus a Nobel prize, so I doubt he feels much guilt about it. Too busy counting the cash.

The road block now seems to be that the FDA that says HCQ should not be administered outside of a hospital setting. HCQ proponents say it should be administered early, so you don’t have to go to the hospital! Catch-22.

If the FDA road block were removed, doctors would have a choice to make. At least some doctors would prescribe HCQ.

Which doctors? Those doctors who have a better understanding. Doctors who have a greater motivation, with patients, relatives, or themselves in the early stage of infection. Those doctors who live in states that are less hostile to HCQ.

More prescriptions and more successes could lead to exponential growth in the use of HCQ.
