CDC indicates COVID infection-fatality rate less than 1%
World Net Daily ^ | June 27, 2020 at 9:45am | WND Staff

That percentage, which is higher than other current estimates, nevertheless sharply contrasts with the alarming estimate of 3.4% announced March 3 by the director general of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesusin, which fueled the global lockdowns.

In fact, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top White House infectious disease expert, co-authored an article published March 26 in the New England Journal of Medicine predicting the case fatality rate for the coronavirus would turn out to be like that of a "severe seasonal influenza."

In an exceptionally bad flu season, the rate is about one-tenth of 1 percent, the authors wrote.

The rate may have turned out to be considerably lower among people under 70, according to a paper published this month by John Ioannidis, a professor of epidemiology and population health at Stanford University.

He found the infection fatality rates in that population ranged from zero to 0.23%, with a median of 0.04%.

His finding was based on a study of 23 "seroprevalence studies," which measure infection rates using the presence of antibodies in blood samples, Just the News reported.

The studies, Ioannidis wrote, "typically show a much lower fatality than initially speculated in the earlier days of the pandemic."

"It should be appreciated," he writes in the paper, "that [the fatality rate] is not a fixed physical constant and it can vary substantially across locations, depending on the population structure, the case-mix of infected and deceased individuals and other, local factors."

The implication for decision-makers, he said, is that they can tailor measures "to specific high-risk individuals and settings" rather than implement a "blind lockdown of the entire society."

I’d like to see some statistical wizard (calling John Lott) estimate how many would have died if infected people had not been sent to nursing homes.

Died, what nice a neutral word for murdered...

As for the people who deliberately sent the human 'smallpox blankets' to the nursing homes...

Strip their sovereign immunity for violating 18 USC §§ 241 and 242, open the floodgates for a thousand wrongful death civil lawsuits, and no future governor will risk everything he or she owns and their coveted civil service pension.

While we're at it criminal charges are in order.

LouieFisk found this gem:

There’s what’s called “depraved heart” murder - from Findlaw cuz I don’t trust my memory right now:

“Often the intent to kill (or malice aforethought) element of murder can be satisfied by showing that the defendant showed extreme indifference to human life. These are also known as “depraved heart” murders.

Acting with extreme recklessness and knowing that act is dangerous to human life (i.e., firing through the floor of your third-story apartment) and ending a human life may satisfy this intent element, even if the person never intended to kill anyone. This has been argued in fatal DUI cases in which the driver was far too intoxicated to form any intent.”

It seems to me that forcing nursing homes to accept patients who are infected or still infectious, while safe alternatives were available, would be an act of a "depraved heart".

Bring federal depraved heart murder charges against any governor who ordered infectious patients into facilities with the very most vulnerable people, and any minion who executed those orders.

They've earned the full Michael Flynn treatment, lets make sure the get it...

I believe ESPECIALLY Dr. Levine who knew this would happen, the proof being she moved his own mother out of the nursing home before she forced the eldercare facilities to accept infectious patients.

It looks like mass murder under the color of law, if we could reasonably assume there is anyone else in the Pennsylvania power structure is bright enough to realize that putting highly infectious people into the very most vulnerable population is a bad idea we could include them in conspiracy charges.

And of course one of the problems is that people who die from other causes can be and often are labeled covid death. Plus, I am very suspicious about Brix’s statement that the flu disappeared months ago. Oh yeah? I presume that many of the covid deaths were flu and/or pneumonia.

To be fair, Texas Medical Center in Houston (a massive complex employing over 106,000 people and seeing over 10,000,000 patients a year) is at 100% normal ICU capacity right now (they have surge capacity) and has seen a huge uptick in ICU utilization due to COVID-19 patients recently. That's certainly concerning.

Yep. They are stuck.

They try to make it as scary as possible by inflating the number of cases by conflating positive PCR results with the number of sick, that increases the denominator and makes the fatality rate artificially low.

Now the need to inflate the numerator to make it artificially high...

The flu did not disappear. They don’t actually count flu deaths. They use math models to approximate them. The math models assume nobody has the flu in the summer. So the models just multiply deaths times zero, no deaths.

Birx said the flu disappeared, quite a few months ago, before summer, can’t remember when she said or even what time frame she was referring to. Flu disappeared because all deaths with similar symptoms are officially covid.

The number recovered is from those who actually report having the virus and report being virus free 5 to 10 days after recovery. I had West Nile last year. The state made me call them so they could check the box, “recovered”. If I don’t call, or if the hospital did not report the disease then I would not be counted. So recovered is the weakest number they report. You can think of it this way. Of those who are hospitalized and don’t die, those are the recovered. If you are positive for antigen, not antibodies, and you bother to call them back 21 days later, you can be counted too. Those with antibody’s are not considered recovered, even though they obviously are.

The only way to really tell the rate of death is to take an area, randomly test a large sample apply that percentage to the population then count the deaths in that area. A Stanford Dr. has done that a few times. But that still over estimates the deaths. Because they have gotten far better at stopping death, by new drugs and procedures figured out over the past 4 months.

A better, more objective number might be hospitalizations for COVID-19.

There must be a way to find that number...

Trump is building 1 mile of wall per day. Because there was virtually no wall before, he has started in the high traffic spots around towns and cities, and now he is moving to the lower traffic spots. The border is just shy of 2000 miles. He has a new wall over 200 miles now, mostly replacing useless border barriers. He has also put up roads and camera towers that track cross border traffic and allow the ICE to get quickly to the border for apprehension. At the moment they are able to just send people back because of the virus. Traffic is much lower this year because of the virus. And because the wall makes the crossing more difficult. Its still very possible just more difficult.

Thanks for your contribution, although I might take you gently to task for the subject line.

I never contended that only cases who were sick enough to see a doctor got counted in the denominator.

You may have been thinking of someone else’s post. I wouldn’t call myself a “Flubro” but I’m an old-school newspaper reporter, now retired, and blessed by the Lord with a distinctly skeptical turn of mind.

I certainly agree with you that the actions of Cuomo and other Dem governors could well amount to criminal negligence, if not worse.

No, it was never the flu. Flubros are morons.

It was the flu. Fearpers went all in with the rest of the globalists and marxists in destroying the greatest economic comeback in a century because, at their core, they are cowards who are easily befuddled by the most rudimentary math.

OK, simply don’t participate in the reopening; there, problem solved...

Closing the gyms was STUPID. Healthy people interested in staying healthy go there. I’m finally back at mine, but in the meantime, my blood pressure went up from LACK OF EXERCISE.

My gym takes precautions. Only a limited number of people at a time—you make reservations. They take your temp when you sign in. Have l disinfectant bottles and paper towels to wipe down your equipment when you’re through with it, but we’ve always done that.
Employees wear serious masks; some patrons do too. I do on some equipment but not on treadmill because it hampers breathing. No matter, we can only use machines that are 6-feet apart.

Anyway, I think the whole thing is a crock. Not more serious, per capita, than SARS or MERS.

If a quarantine saves just one life, it's worth it.

That reasoning and position is as faulty as the first time you posted it, and then incessantly. It is as correct as saying, "If not getting out of bed saves just one life, it's worth it." For indeed, accidents result in far more cumulative deaths than COVID-19 has. However, it ignores the fact that prevention incurs a greater cost. And the premise that the quarantine prevents COVID-19 infections rather than being out in fresh air and sunshine is specious. See Does COVID-19 truly warrant a nationwide shutdown?

“My county’s confirmed cases to deaths is 3%.”

Sorry to hear that. Yeah, I know, we have morons who want to compare the ChiCom Virus to the flu and this virus is not influenza.

Prayers for your area and our Republic to get beyond this curve once and for all.
