Soccer team ditches national anthem for this patriotic song (This Land is Your Land)

A semi-professional soccer team will no longer play the U.S. national anthem before matches and instead will be replacing it with Woody Guthrie's “This Land is Your Land.”

Tulsa Athletic, of the National Premier Soccer League, announced Wednesday that in order to create a more inclusive environment it will change the song. The team said it decided on making the change after reviewing the lyrics of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

“After carefully reviewing ‘The Star-Spangled Banner' lyrics and meaning, including the third verse which mentions ‘No refuge could save the hireling and slave / From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave…,’ Tulsa Athletic came to the decision that the song does not align with the club’s core values. While this verse is rarely sung, Tulsa Athletic does not believe ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ represents or unites their diverse players, fans and community,” the team said in a press release.

Ha, ha, wouldn’t they have a fit if somebody slipped that in rather than the obno Woody Guthrie song?

Next they will replace the national anthem with “It’s a Small World After All.” Always hated that annoying song.

The best response, if you disagree, is to vote with your feet; do not attend their games and let management know why.

As for the third verse of the Star Spangled Banner, the claim that the phrase “hireling and slave” is a reference to Black Americans generally is disputable.

Among British forces at Fort McHenry were the British Colonial Marines, a unit raised by the British from among freed and escaped slaves. Here is a long article on the unit from Wikipedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corps_of_Colonial_Marines?wprov=sfti1

Scroll down in the article to the Chesapeake Campaign of the War of 1812. British Royal Marines and Colonial Marines conducted numerous raids along the US Eastern Seaboard and in the Chesapeake Bay in the run up to the attack on Fort McHenry. These units participated in the assault and would have been present aboard the blockading and bombardment fleets as a matter of course. It is likely that Francis Scott Key saw them when he came out to negotiate with the British for the release of prominent US civilian prisoners.

In addition, the term “hireling” is an archaic pejorative term used to refer to European soldiers (usually German) sometimes rented out by their rulers for service in overseas expeditionary campaigns. In this context, the term “slave” can also be seen in one of its archaic uses referring to subjects impressed into military service with very little to no rights. The term carried the connotation of craven subjugation.

Since the third verse makes specific mention of the attacks and the boasts of the enemy, it is obvious that Key was making reference to the enemies of the nation who were at that very moment attacking the Fort and raiding its cities. This hold even if Keys was making specific reference to black British Colonial Marines. They were in service to the British crown and engaged in attacks upon the United States. By any reasonable definition of the word, that makes them enemies of the United States. Period.

Is it now wrong to resent the enemies of your country when attacked and be glad for their defeat?

There is nothing wrong with the third verse to the Star Spangled Banner.

“Sorry?”
That is “Country” for, “one sorry assed piece of shit!”
You can take that to the bank.
The folks don’t need any help in filling in the blanks.

I remember seeing the video clip of a naked Bernie Sanders dining at a table with a bunch of naked Russians singing that song while honeymooning with his wife in Russia back in the 1980’s.

"This Land is Your Land" could offend some people. It fails to recognize the injustice done to American Indians...and Tulsa is very close to the lands assigned to the Five Civilized Tribes after they were forced to leave the Southeast.

Something more innocuous and soothing is needed.

Maybe Barney the dinosaur's song.

#4. Guthrie was a member of the Communist Party USA, the Stalinist arm of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (1961 Supreme Court decision).

And all they had to do was strike one dumb stanza, but that wasn’t their intent. America is for sale, and everything must go!

Guthrie was a Communist piece of shit.

I read also, that he didn’t like the song God Bless America, so he wrote this one.

Somebody could really show up these bozos by sneaking in a loud sound system, and just before they put on TLIYL, start playing the State Anthem of the Soviet Union.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U06jlgpMtQs

It is *just* recognizable enough for those who know what it is for those people who are smart enough in the crowd to both get it, and remember that TLIYL was supposed to have been the commie anthem of the United States, despite Guthrie’s tepid denials to cover his sorry rear end.

This land is my land,
It is not your land,
I’ve got a shotgun,
And you don’t got one,
If you riot and loot here,
The worms will eat you,
Keep your shit far away,
From this land and me!

Because they are so much more black than blacks, all must take a knee to them.

I am getting sick and tired of these drug induced melt down self haters, and people should call them out on their obvious scam.
