Conservative commentator Candace Owens lashed out at the emerging personality cult of George Floyd, whose death in Minneapolis last month first sparked protests and then riots.
I do not support George Floyd and the media depiction of him as a martyr for black America, she said in Facebook Live video on Wednesday.
Referring to the writings of African-American writer and filmmaker Shelby Steele, Owens said black Americans spend too much time defending criminals.
We are unique in that we are the only people that fight and scream and demand support and justice for the people in our community that are up to no good, she said.
You would be hard-pressed to find, you know, a Jewish person thats been five stints in prison that commits a crime and dies while committing a crime and that the Jewish people champion and demand justice for, she said, saying the same holds true for whites and Hispanics.
Owens said she was not defending the Minneapolis police officer who knelt on Floyds neck for more than eight minutes.
I want to be very clear, what I am saying is not any defense for Derek Chauvin; I hope Derek Chauvin gets the justice that he deserves to be implemented upon him and that the family of George Floyd deserves justice for the way that he died, she said.
However, she added, I am not going to accept the narrative that this is the best the black community has to offer.
Noting that in recent years it has become fashionable over the last five or six years for us to turn criminals into heroes overnight. It is something I find despicable. George Floyd was not an amazing person, she said, later adding that George Floyd is being lifted up as an amazing human being.
Owens noted Floyds prison record, and said that I am not going to play a part of the broken black culture that always wants to martyr criminals, to pretend that they were upstanding human beings that just wanted to help society.
He has a rap sheet that was long and was dangerous, she said. He was an example of a violent criminal his entire life, OK, up until the very last moment.
The Daily Mail noted that Floyd had been sentenced to five years in prison in 2009 after being convicted on a charge of aggravated assault that came from a robbery in which a woman had a gun pointed at her while the house was robbed.
The Daily Mail also showed a court document that said Floyd had served five stints in jail, beginning in the 1990s.
Owens said no one who has the kind of criminal record Floyd had should be held up as a model citizen, but black Americans are doing just that.
We are embarrassing in that regard. This is why we have a cycle and a toxic culture because nobody wants to tell the truth in black America. It is so easy to be effective it is so easy to ask white people to bow down and apologize and do all these things for us. It is crap, she said.
Owens said Floyds death has been packaged to fit a false narrative.
Racially motivated police brutality is a myth, she said.
Well under Biden Rules she’s not Black.
It is a giant failing of Trump to not find a way to get Candace more into the spotlight. The country needs her intellect and courage right now arguably more than any other voice.
Don’t politicize her. That’s just plain dumb.
That’s a Biden-Truth.
Floyd wasn’t killed because of his past. Whatever blacks are saying his past is completely irrelevant to what happened.
Great choice to burn the country down over.
Floyd wasnt killed because of his past. Whatever blacks are saying his past is completely irrelevant to what happened.”””
Partially-—he was killed because of his past-—
Floyd had a history of being combative with law enforcement.
He did it one time too many.
If you werent aborted, are you really Black?
Floyd was a convicted felon who died from a drug overdose while resisting arrest. If it wasn’t for the last part nobody would have cared if he was another person who OD’d on Fentanyl.
Blacks probably are the most victimized population in our country, however it's not white people doing the victimizing. Crimes committed against blacks are almost all committed by other blacks. But if a police officer tries to prevent this and a violent criminal gets killed resisting, all of a sudden it's the cops fault and black society rushes to defend the perp (see Ferguson, MO).
Nothing going on today, with all the protests and BLM posturing, is helping the black community one bit. But maybe if our civic leaders grow a backbone and actually start addressing these issues, maybe some beneficial change will happen.
At a time when the powers that be are denying permission for Americans to attend the funerals of their loved ones, this petty criminal is getting a send-off that rivals the funeral of a President, covered end to end on all major networks. Such displays are not the way to garner sympathy.
I’ve never seen a public figure this brave. I’ve spoken out to black people that some statues shouldn’t come down. That didn’t go over well since I was talking to Democrats. I’ll never take the knee either.
But this, THIS is a whole ‘mother level. This is extraordinary.
Au Contraire, mon ami!
(A little French lingo there to show my fond regard for little froggies.)
I say that it has a lot to do with his being stopped by the police; however, he shouldn't have died and made himself a pedestaled martyr. Tossing down statues of civil war leaders in his name is utter blasphemy. His children, born of several mothers, don't even know who he was.
Projecting his image on the desecrated base of the statue of Robert E Lee makes one's blood boil!
The most ridiculous thing about the BLM thugs is that most of them are unwashed and uneducated whites who are to agitate the masses to burn, loot and even kill.
“Whatever blacks are saying his past is completely irrelevant to what happened.”
People are losing their jobs, being forced to resign. Statues are being torn down because of words or actions decades ago.
There is NO forgiveness with BLM or Antifa.
