Is the ‘CHOP’ here to stay? City adds concrete barriers to Seattle’s occupied protest zone

SEATTLE -- The occupied protest zone in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood known as the CHOP is getting some extra safety measures from the city.

Tuesday morning, the Seattle Department of Transportation replaced tent barriers with concrete barriers around the edges of the six-nine block protest zone surrounding the abandoned SPD East Precinct.

The barriers will help to prevent cars from driving through the protesters, which happened last week, while also leaving a travel lane for emergency responders.

Although the occupied protest has remained largely peaceful since it popped up more than a week ago, residents and business owners in the area have raised safety concerns over police response times tripling and officers not responding to calls inside the zone.

Mayor Jenny Durkan said Tuesday that the city is making changes to accommodate the protesters while still protecting nearby businesses and residents.

"While there have been inaccurate and misleading depictions of the CHOP from the president and some national media, the city believes first amendment activities can continue," the city said in a prepared statement Tuesday.

This is a complete joke. These a-holes will never sustain independently nor have any ground to do what they do and the f-off Jenny Mayor knows this.

Property owners need to sue and city and the mayor and each member of the city council.

A few hundred lawsuits might get their attention.

All they need is one take no prisoners attorney determined to take the case all the way to the US Supreme Court if necessary.

That attorney should also try to convince the Justice Department to file federal kidnapping and RICO charges against everyone associated with this mess.

They're probably in dire need right now of at least a couple large truckloads of extra-strength deodorant...

No need. President Trump has said twice now he is going to clean it up. I’m sure he’s going to do it any day now.

Stop delivering food to them. Shut off power and water to the area.

that agreement lasted about 3 hours. While the Chazmaniacs were happy to have more plywood surfaces to grafitti, they did not like giving up half a street to emergency vehicles and have re-barricaded the east entrance on Pine with their personal vehicles.

I went on a ride-along with a tow-driver once, towing cars parked illegally at an apt complex. That guy could back up, drop the hook, grab the vehicle and be down the street in less than 30 seconds. Then he’d get out and chain up proper. I bet they’ve got guys like that in Seattle, too. With a standing contract even.

Why do you think that putting free people under a leftist mind set by force is “peace loving”? I would not.

Sarcasm. I didn’t think my post needed a sarcasm tag. I guessed wrong, it would appear. At least you’re not one of my creepy stalkers on the forum.

Do you think they could find a judge to side against BLM?

The property owners are supporting the protesters.

Is it bad that I’m not having any sympathy for the CHAZ occupiers?

Activists are trying to change the name of CHAZ to CHOP, but there's confusion over what the "O" stands for. (Photo: Julio Rosas)

We can just call it “the area formerly known as CHAZ.”
