I think this Senate would pass a DC Statehood bill in a heartbeat.

I don’t think it requires a signature by the President. The language is “New states may be admitted by the Congress into this union; but no new states shall be formed or erected within the jurisdiction of any other state; nor any state be formed by the junction of two or more states, or parts of states, without the consent of the legislatures of the states concerned as well as of the Congress”.

Just as the President does not sign proposed Amendments, which are a joint project of the Congress and the States, it does not appear that admitting a State is an act of legislation.

I DO think a DC statehood would require the consent of Maryland, but I have no doubt that it would be forthcoming.

Were this to happen (which I now think is quite likely), Chicago, Detroit and Portland OR would certainly follow. I doubt that California would consent to lose SF or LA, and I’m certain NY would never consent to NYC Statehood. However, Illinois, Michigan and Oregon might well be pleased to be rid of their Leftist cesspools.

You may be right that the President approval is not required.

However I can’t imagine Republican Senators voting for it, in any case McConnell will not allow it to be brought up.

I don’t know if Maryland need be consulted. I have been opposed to retro-ceding the district into Maryland as that would prevent even the election of RINO governors in the state, but that would be an acceptable solution, certainly far preferable to this shit and we may have to go for it to prevent this which seems certain to pass the next time rats have both Houses.

I’d prefer of course that they be told to pound sand and like it, never should have given them electors either. And what happens to those electors if they are given statehood? All statehood proposals have suggested the District remains but it is reduced to a small area around the White House and Capitol but the 23rd would still grant them electors.
