A statue of Thomas Jefferson outside a high school named for him in North Portland, Oregon was toppled Sunday after a night of protests, reports CBS Portland, Oregon affiliate KOIN-TV. It was the latest to be vandalized or pulled over in the U.S. and other nations during the racial justice protests that have followed the death of George Floyd at Minneapolis police hands three week ago.

The person who made sure that the slaves he freed upon his death also had skills and trades to their name as well, so that they would be able to live productive lives in freedom. What a real racist and insensitive person Jefferson was, eh?

President Trump predicted this after the Charlottesville
protests.

I call on Pelosi and Schumer to denounce such vandalism. or do they own it?

The irony here is that Jefferson was one of the founders of the Democratic-Republican Party which later morphed into the Democratic Party during Jackson’s presidency.

Wasn’t Jefferson against the Second Amendment?

I don’t support this at all. That said...

It is funny to me that most of the statues being damaged or destroyed are liberal Democrats.

I have no objection to a statue of Jefferson. He was however a slaver, a Deist who had the audacity to rewrite the Bible, and he serially raped (a slave really can’t consent) his African American slave Sally (a life time of unrepentant adultery as well) and had several children by her God knows what became of them.

He’s not hero of mine. I appreciate his role in history.

This is no longer about race, and damned sure not about justice.

Be warned. The primary reason a Second Amendment supporter carries a pistol is so he (or she) may fight the way to obtaining a long gun.

And more ammunition.

told this in another thread but my Portland dtr and her husband said last year that they would be moving back home in "maybe 5 yrs"...then in April they said "in a couple of yrs" and yesterday on the phone she told me that had just had a realtor come to their house.....they could sell and move any day now....

enough is enough....and they're not total conservatives...liberal leaning...but practical.

How do these crowds gather and all stand around yelling, while others are putting ropes or cables around these monuments and pulling them down using with vehicles etc, yet no cops around? They don’t even show up?

WTF?

“Wasn’t Jefferson against the Second Amendment?”

I actually don't know, but I suspect he would have been. Contrary to popular belief, he seemed to think that educated land owners definitely should have more rights, completely contrary to what he wrote in the Declaration of Independence.

With the Declaration of Independence, which he wrote, he laid the basis for the ending of slavery in this country. One has to have some historical knowledge to realize this and also to realize that the Democrapt party that claimed him as an originator, rejected that goal of ending slavery but became dedicated to its preservation.

Own it? They’re instigating the removal of statues from the Capitol as we speak.
