Atlanta police shooting death of Rayshard Brooks roils city

Atlanta police shot and killed a black man late Friday night following a struggle outside a Wendy’s restaurant on the city’s southside, in an incident that inflamed tensions over police use of force and racial injustice that have roiled Atlanta and cities across the nation since the Memorial Day death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis.

Video of the shooting of 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks, who had allegedly fallen asleep in his car and blocked the restaurant’s drive-through, went viral across social media. Protesters marching for a third weekend in Atlanta for justice for Floyd and other black men and women killed by police quickly demanded a full investigation Saturday of the Brooks shooting, and the Georgia NAACP called for the termination of Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields.

Now, is it preferable to allow the suspect to incapacitate the LEO with the taser, steal his firearm, or should we expect that LEO should be shot first before returning fire?

It appears that the intoxicated man who slept in the drive-through started fighting with the police to evade arrest. Then he stole their taser. Then he threatened to use the taser on one of them: a deadly threat in that case. Then the officer drew his weapon and fired, while the attacking felon turned to flee again. The whole bum rush of riots and political putsch by the commie, criminal subversives is to stop police from arresting them, so they can violate the constitutional rights of law abiding people. Stop playing games with the criminals and put them down, including the Democrat criminals in executive and judicial offices. The situation has gone too far. Start a real war on drugs now, and put a stop to it all. There are too many drug addicts in our society. They must be culled out now!

I am conservative. I do NOT like police. They are NOT my friend. They get into every damned aspect of our lives these days. I don’t want traffic cams, plate scanners, facial recognition, cops killing dogs, cops given 100% leeway to use lethal force.

Our collective memory seems to have forgotten the time when CITIZENS were involved in law enforcement, and would often help hunt outlaws and be permitted lethal force. This was common. When politicians were terrified of citizens who might tar and feather them in the streets if they went too far. Now we are all pathetic, willing slaves of a police state.

You clearly have never lost anyone to DUI, or have never witnessed the horrific scene of a DUI accident.

Leaving a drunk driver alone, to wake up who knows when and drive anywhere so that you can "arrest him tomorrow" is brainless.
