WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said Friday that he is rescheduling his first campaign rally in months to a day later so it won't conflict with the Juneteenth observance of the end of slavery in the United States...

He said he is moving the rally to June 20 “to honor their requests.”

I’m hearing June 18. I can’t help but think the “mistake” was intentional.

But the crowd that shows up shall be no less enthusiastic. Some few just end up standing in the line 24 hours longer.

One heck of a block party. Bring refreshments and if necessary, make it a camp-out.

As an 8 generation Texan, it troubles me greatly that the media/democrats have taken Juneteenth as some National holiday. This was a Texas thing.

This was strictly Texan. June 19th is the date when the news of Lincoln’s Emancipation Speech finally trickled into Texas. But now the history has been morphed as many things have been, to benefit their own cause.

He probably never heard of this “holiday” either. I had never heard of it till it showed up on my calendar this month. This is a great opportunity to remind BLM et al that the REPUBLICANS caused this holiday to happen. Lincoln, a Republican with a Republican congress freed the slaves.

Sorry it’s short it’s a AP story?

It’s not a story. It’s nothing. Even the ap can’t bleed it. They’d like to.

I hate political pandering, but this is probably a good exception. It tells me the Trump campaign is going to be making a hard push for black votes in November. The way to do this is to look back at these fiascos with COVID-19 and these mutant riots — and point out how so much of the mess can be attributed to the incompetence and malfeasance of governors and mayors who are DEMOCRATS ... and WHITE.

Wait til all those precious little BLM followers find out that the men represented by those statues they tore down were DEMOCRATS!

He should have owned it. Lincoln was the first Republican President.

Juneteenth

A gruff white guy from NY, schooled along the Hudson River, tells black people, many hearing it for the first time, you are free and in control of your own lives. Your democrat overlords do not own you.

Wow. History does repeat itself.

I think Trump is taking a “guilty” and wrong move.

I think he should have kept the date and used it, recognized it, and spoken about the meaning of it - Juneteenth - to many blacks. He should have also spoken forcefully, in the same manner of recognition, the bad events in Tulsa in 1921, when the white community, based on a rumor about a black man and a white girl, literally destroyed a thriving and prosperous black community in their town. Trump can speak about that, right in Tulsa, and turn the occasion positive by how he speaks about those things. He can make Tulsa and Junteenth a positive message to the nation and its black citizens.

This is what happens when stupid people ignore history. I had never heard of this date until we moved from Florida to Texas. Never heard of this date in any history class. As such, it is as much a day to remember as Kwanzaa.

Turns out it is the date that the Emancipation Proclamation was read to blacks in Galveston, Texas. The date was June 19th, 1865 - TWO YEARS AND SIX MONTHS after it went into effect! And THREE MONTHS after the war ended.

IF a day of remembrance is necessary (and I am against it), more proper dates would be:
1. Emancipation Proclamation Day 9/2/1862
2. Effective date 1/1/1863 (except for Union states of DE, MD, KY and MO)
3. 13th Amendment Day 4/8/1864 or 12/6/1865 Abolished slavery
4. 14th Amendment Day 6/8/1866 or 7/9/1868 Citizenship for blacks
5. 13th Amendment Day 2/3/1870 or2/26/1872 Blacks get to vote

No it’s not, it’s a nonsensical talking point and this move is weak. What’s wrong with having a rally on Juneteenth? Celebrating when a REPUBLICAN President freed the slaves? If you know then tell me cause I can’t think of a reason.

They also criticized the location because some Blacks were killed in Tulsa 99 years ago (again, so what?), should Trump move it to OK City then?

Never kowtow.

(History of Juneteenth)

Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation did not free a single slave.
