Trump says his administration 'will not even consider' renaming military bases named for Confederates
Fox News ^ | 6/10/20 | Andrew O'Reilly

In a series of tweets on Wednesday afternoon, Trump called the bases named after Confederate soldiers “Hallowed Grounds” that helped train soldiers to win two world wars. He said his administration “will not even consider the renaming of these Magnificent and Fabled Military Installations.”

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany also began her briefing with the press Wednesday by reading the president's statement on the topic.

“These Monumental and very Powerful Bases have become part of a Great American Heritage, and a history of Winning, Victory, and Freedom,” Trump tweeted. “Therefore, my Administration will not even consider the renaming of these Magnificent and Fabled Military Installations. Our history as the Greatest Nation in the World will not be tampered with. Respect our Military!”

The president’s insistence that the names of the military bases remain unchanged comes just two days after U.S. Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy said he is open to the idea.

A senior Army official told Fox News on Monday that McCarthy did not plan to change the names unilaterally, but instead will seek bipartisan support to do so.

Rewriting history is evil.

Not if you were never taught how important it is.

I thought military leaders weren't supposed to get involved in political issues.

“I don’t think it matters much what the president wants, I think this will be a state by state thing; on the other hand, why do we care what bases are named for, and why DO we name bases after generals that fought against the united states?

Why is this still such a big deal? We keep fighting over statues of people, and now names of people. Statues of people are not “history”, they simply honor people who were part of history. Plaques are history, historical SITES are history.”
**************************************************************
These forts and bases were given their names as part of NATIONAL RECONCILIATION. Apparently you’re OK with erasing American history and traditions as long as you can simply redefine what is history.

Don’t you have anybody to beg forgiveness from, submit to, bow to and wash the feet of?

“I don’t think it matters much what the president wants, I think this will be a state by state thing . . .”

I appreciate your fidelity to the sovereignty of the states; I really do.

But these are federal military bases and only the federal government can change the sign at the front entrance.

Of course, if the California governor wants to make reference to “Fort Fabulous” in Texas I suppose he could.

Because this is base level on who controls whom.

When you allow people of an ideology antithetical to the idea of the United States control who is honored, who is not, you have surrendered to the idea they are correct and you are wrong.

Military installations are federal property; they are sovereign and do not have to cede to state authorities.

A southern veteran, from Alabama, once told me that the Army named forts, posts, and camps in the south after the worst Civil War generals, union or confederate. Ft. Lee in Virginia being a notable exception.

Yeah, we had a fort here in Alabama named after a yankee general, McClellan. Klinton closed it in violation of all the rules for base closures.

This idea was reported in the New York Times a few years ago.
It took some time to get a foothold. Trash begets trash!
It is a foolish question to ask why the installations are named after Civil War heroes. These bases are mostly in Southern States. Leave them alone.
There are more important issues to be solved.

“Save your Confederate Money, the South will rise again,” just scares the hell out of the liberal pantywaists.

“I don’t think it matters much what the president wants, I think this will be a state by state thing;”

No, US military are federal property maintained in every way by the federal government.

“on the other hand, why do we care what bases are named for, and why DO we name bases after generals that fought against the united states?”

The naming of bases and even ships after Confederate generals was undertaken by the federal government as a symbol of reconciliation between the north and south. For that reason alone the names are worth keeping.

The men who fought that war took great pains to reconcile. There was even a 75th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg attended by men who fought on both sides.
Do you think you know better than them?
I know I don’t.

“Why is this still such a big deal? We keep fighting over statues of people, and now names of people. Statues of people are not “history”, they simply honor people who were part of history. Plaques are history, historical SITES are history.”

All a part of the socialist plan.
To rewrite history you have to condition the population to reject any history that doesn’t fit the narrative you teach them.
Once they question actual history you then remove the focal points of actual history: statues, places named after unapproved people, plaques honoring people, etc. Once the statues, place names, plaques, etc are gone how long do you think before the books that teach the actual history will last?
We’re now at the point where unapproved movies and TV shows are vanishing. First was Song of the South. Now we’re at Gone With The Wind, Cops and Live PD.

No need to burn books anymore. Most information is digital now and the population conditioned to disregard print for digital information which is easily changed at a moments notice.

As long as the statues, place names and other things exist history can’t as easily be erased. And the left will do away with historical SITES as quickly as they will do statues.

You are aware that the church George Washington attended recently removed the plaque commemorating him aren’t you?
Do you think Barry Obama was on point when he sent back the bust of Churchill?

Good.

At least the President understands that the base names were an act of reconciliation and healing after the bitter Civil War.
